Nigerian-American Joins California’s Gubernatorial Race In U.S by Benwallt(op): 3:23pm On Feb 09, 2025
Nigerian-born American, Dr. Akinyemi Agbede, has declared his intention to contest the upcoming California governorship election next year.

His decision has sparked excitement among his friends and political associates, as he is no stranger to California politics, having previously run for governor in 2014 and 2018, as well as for the U.S. Senate in 2016 and 2022.

Agbede cited the recent rise of Kemi Badenoch, who emerged as the Labour Party leader in the United Kingdom, as a source of inspiration, believing he can achieve a similar milestone in California.

In a statement released on Sunday, Agbede said: “My relentless pursuit of the exalted position of governor in California is borne out of my commitment to serve the diverse communities of California.

“The campaign will focus on educational reform, economic development, and social justice—issues that resonate deeply with voters across the state.”

Born on May 5, 1964, in Lagos, Nigeria, Agbede boasts an impressive academic background, holding a Ph.D. in Mathematical Analysis from the University of Cambridge.

He has dedicated much of his career to mathematics education, using it as a tool to empower students.

Yes oh 😁 they like to run for every single political position available in any foreign land they travel to . . .

But for someone else to travel down to their own land and run for political office is a very huge taboo 😕

Even for their own brother cry just because he has an igbo mum who his Yoruba father loved 😍

Interesting move, but the real question is—what party is he running under? Is he with the Democrats, Republicans, or just going solo as an independent? Because in U.S. politics, running outside the two major parties is like climbing a mountain with no gear. Hopefully, he has a solid strategy, or this might just be another long shot.

Who be this one? Which party will be run on? Kamala Harris will likely be the dem nominee.
The Dems in california are more or less a mafia. If you don't get the blessings of the bosses, don't even waste your time.

He may want to run as a Republican. Even though the Republican party in California has been in the wilderness in recent years.

With the failure of the incumbent Governor in dealing with the fires, I think he might face a better chance as they electorate might seek to widen their horizons to look for someone with a good track record.

What are you saying? They have more non Yorubas in place of position in the South West than any other region has with non indigenes. Stop making it look like Yorubas are terrible accomodators

How many Yorubas and half Yorubas occupy political positions in your own state? Hypocrite...

All of you want to litter the south west, but you won't accept the same in your region... Double standards.

in his own land, we have had many non indigenous people holding big politics positions.

Igbos have become senators in Yoruba land.
Northerners have become senators in Yoruba land.
Don't get me started on commisionals and political appointments that have been awarded to non indigenes in Yoruba land.

Now can you show us a single non indigene that has become ordinary councilor in your land or even commissional since 1999?

Since 1999(the return of democracy) only south east has never given a single political appointment or voted non indegene before.

Like zero.
Even imo igbo cannot be anything in anambra.

The same people are at the center of calling people bigot. grin

What will you and your fellow tribal chauvinists say if Trump swears for anyone who votes him, like Oba Akiolu did for Igbos in 2015 huh

Apr 7, 2015
Igbo leaders in Lagos paid the Oba of Lagos a visit on Sunday April 5 and during the meeting they were told to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Akinwumi Ambode, or else they will die in the lagoon.
