SalamRushdie:The 14th Amendment links with birth citizenship through its Citizenship Clause, which states that anyone born or naturalized in the United States is automatically a U.S. citizen, ensuring citizenship regardless of race or parental status. |

You can only blame Trump if your country is offering such privilege. It is a danger that Trump feels compelled to stop now. |

smiliyB:Doesnt' mean tho. There is one program (if you have DSTV) called Gold rush...and one of the stars of the programme is from the Netherlands...and has been in the USA for over 30 years, and has never gone home (he even has an American wife, and children). He is from the Netherlands, which is a good country and better country, yet, he is in the USA because he wanted to mine gold, and there are no gold mines in his country. We can make Nigeria a developed country, and a young man would still migrate because there are no opportunites to play baseball here. |

givedemwotowoto:This your comment reminds me of a man who has been described as the father of Mexican private television (Nigerians of a certain age will remember the Rich also cry which was produced by his station...the original starring Veronica Castro, not the recent one). He was born in America.(his mexican parents were working there temporarily, and moved back when he was one). Something that he never liked mentioning at all...guy was a proud mexican. |

SoftSport:Look into the origin of the 14th amendment. It was created for descendants of slaves to be recognized as American citizens and have citizenship rights, not for immigrants. To be more precise, the 14th amendment was created for Black Americans. |

In recent years, several countries have revised their citizenship laws, tightening or revoking birthright citizenship due to concerns over immigration, national identity, and so-called "birth tourism" where people visit a country in order to give birth. India, for example, once granted automatic citizenship to anyone born on its soil. But over time, concerns over illegal immigration, particularly from Bangladesh, led to restrictions. Since December 2004, a child born in India is only a citizen if both parents are Indian, or if one parent is a citizen and the other is not considered an illegal migrant. Many African nations, which historically followed jus soli under colonial-era legal systems, later abandoned it after gaining independence. Today, most require at least one parent to be a citizen or a permanent resident. Citizenship is even more restrictive in most Asian countries, where it is primarily determined by descent, as seen in nations such as China, Malaysia, and Singapore. Europe has also seen significant changes. Ireland was the last country in the region to allow unrestricted jus soli. It abolished the policy after a June 2004 poll, when 79% of voters approved a constitutional amendment requiring at least one parent to be a citizen, permanent resident, or legal temporary resident. The government said change was needed because foreign women were travelling to Ireland to give birth in order to get an EU passport for their babies. |

erico2k2:The change is not been done the correct way.. If I recall very well, Ireland had a national referendum and 79% voted in favor, so the constitution was changed. In the U.S, a constitutional change can't be enacted with presidential order, because president are not kings.. But Trump wants to do it his way, instead of following the proper procedure.. a bill ratified by both congress and senate , then ratified by 2/3 of the individual states..( the last part is very hard to accomplish, that's why Trump wants to go around it) |

erico2k2:A judge have already blocked it.. but the case has to go through the judicial process, appeals, then supreme court.. but Trump is hinging on the 6-3 conservative majority to tip the scale in his favor.. But like they say, you can't have it both ways.. Trump have played down a blue print for someone that wants to delay a case.. he dragged out his own court case for 4 years until he was re-elected.. The plaintiffs, if they have the financial backing, could drag out the case as well until everyone is tired and in 4 years..maybe a change of president and change of policies.. Well, actually.. if they could drag out the case until next year.. it might lose support- because the midterm election is next November and the republican have a very slim majority in the house , which they might lose.. Then the next 2 years, Trump will be fighting to hang unto his job and he is done after 2 more years.. |
