As the race for 2027 gears up, alignments and realignments have continued to dominate our political space with leaders of opposition trying to unite and forge a common front to face APC in 2027. Now, with Peter Obi’s showing in the last election coupled with the fact it’s the turn of the south, by Nigerian political convention, the pendulum seems to be swinging towards Peter Obi to be the candidate of the united opposition. Add the fact that Obasanjo seems to be sold out to the Obi project and Obasanjo is a big factor in the ongoing discussions for opposition leaders. But the recent interview of the outgoing President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina, talking about being available for any role in the future (with 2027 presidency clearly in sight) there seems to be a new bride who might be entering the race. Ordinarily I would have taken Adesina’s interview as a no issue but knowing that he’s another guy President Obasanjo admires, I won’t be surprised if he becomes a surprise joker in the race. But now I want to ask, who would you rather faces Tinubu as candidate of the united opposition, Peter Obi or Akinwunmi Adesina?

They should rest and save their money till 2031.....u can't easily defeat the incumbent except the current occupant is willing to let's go of the power .... |

I think Peter is quite different from the current set of empathy-lacking politicians we have, but Adesina isn't even a politician. I would go for Adesina. |
| Re: 2027: Peter Obi Or Akinwumi Adesina? by brain54(m): 11:21am On Feb 11, 2025 |
To answer your question straight forward... Peter Obi stands a better chance with the right alliances. Adeshina is fresh and inexperienced in politics at that level. Obi already has a base he can build on. But as for who is likely to be a better president I would pick Adeshina over Obi! |

Mr Adesina will get far fewer votes than Mr Obi. He doesn't have name recognition on the street. Only educated and people on social media know him, and these are not the real voters. He won't win a single State. |

I struggle to see which opposition pairing and permutation can defeat the President. 1. Mr Atiku doesn't appear willing to step aside, yet, most Southerners and middlebelters are not ready to vote another Northerner so soon after Mr Buhari. 2) If Mr Atiku and Mr Obi decides to join forces on the same ticket, which party will they use? PDP is not certain. If they form an entirely new party, and they don't win, Mr Obi will be the biggest loser, as he will then have been in 4 different parties. That's not a good look. 3) If Mr Obi and Atiku contest separately, we'll probably end up with a result similar to the one we had in 2023. 4) There is no proof yet that the far North will vote for any ticket with Mr Obi in it, whether as President or Vice President. Mr Obi got so few votes in that part of the country in 2023 that it is difficult to see how that will change in 2027. ) If you throw Mr Adesina in the mix, and he too contests under a different party, that fractionalisation of the opposition will only favour the incumbent. Anyway, as someone famously said, a week is a long time in politics. With 2027 still 2 years away, a lot can still change. Who knows. |

Adesina would make a great CBN Governor. Leave the presidency for Peter Obi. Adesina doesn’t have what it takes to rally over 6 million Nigerians in a tightly contested election. Peter Obi does and what he needs is a core northern alliance |

Change the system of government.. Change the constitution Both will be lost in this particular kind of governance ….. Nothing will change |

Akinboboz:I’m not interested in arguments but if the entire country comes together against Tinubu, he will lose woefully even if Remi is made INEC chairperson. An Igbo adage says that “if one man cooks for the community, the community will finish the food. But if the community cooks for one man, he will not finish the food.” Or do you deify Tinubu enough to think he can finish the meal prepared for him by the entire Nigerian community? |

| Re: 2027: Peter Obi Or Akinwumi Adesina? by DeLaRue: 11:40am On Feb 11, 2025 |
givedemwotowoto:No, he won't. The current CBN has actually done a great job. It is easy to appear to be a great CBN Governor when the economy is doing relatively well, ala Mr Soludo, and Mr Sanusi. Neither of those 2 faced the kind of existential economic crisis that the current CBN Governor was faced with when he came into the position. If you look back at what the country faced this time last year, and the relative stability that we are beginning to see in the economy, you will appreciate the great job that the CBN Governor has done. 4 years ago, Turkey was in a similar terrible economic situation, and they went through 4 different central bank Governors with 2 years, and till today, the Turkish currency has still not recovered. Nigeria's CBN Governor deserves commendation. |

Peter Obi - Akinwumi Adesina combination will be a bombshell in Nigerian political history. |
| Re: 2027: Peter Obi Or Akinwumi Adesina? by EdCure: 11:47am On Feb 11, 2025 |
DeLaRue:Your opinion is well though out and rational. As always, Atiku's ambition is bound to truncate the chances of any opposition against the incumbent president Tinubu. With Tinubu, 2027 is a lost course as it stands. Apart from staying in the race to maintain their base (which is dwindling), any rational politician should save their resources for 2031. |
| Re: 2027: Peter Obi Or Akinwumi Adesina? by DeLaRue: 11:48am On Feb 11, 2025 |
Racoon:Highly unlikely that combination will win. 2 Southerners as President and Vice? |
| Re: 2027: Peter Obi Or Akinwumi Adesina? by Penguin2(op): 11:50am On Feb 11, 2025 |
DeLaRue:Nobody is in Atiku’s mind and there’s been no verifiable report anywhere that he wouldn’t want to step down his ambition for the candidate of the unified opposition especially with Obasanjo brokering the deal. About Obi and far north votes… The only reason Obi seemed to perform poorly in far north was because of his running mate in 2023 who was not popular with the talakawas of the north. Substitute Datti for Tambuwal with the backing of northern oligarchs who would dispatch Imams and their foot soldiers to campaign positively for Obi, and you see the sentiment change and his votes skyrocket. Of course you know Southeast and Southsouth is Obi’s place any day, and even large part of MiddleBelt. It will be in Atiku and north’s best interest to step down their interest for Peter Obi or Tinubu does his 8 years. |

Adesina is good but Peter obi has been tested in governance. I go with Peter |
| Re: 2027: Peter Obi Or Akinwumi Adesina? by DeLaRue: 11:55am On Feb 11, 2025 |
Penguin2:That'll mean the North has to trust that Mr Obi will only spend 4 years. With their experience with Mr Jonathan, they are unlikely to invest such level of trust in any Southerner. The North is clearly in a quandary. A candidate from the far North is unlikely to win. Yet, they can't throw their weight behind a Southerner because of the fear of that individual spending 2 terms thus keeping the North away from power until 2035. |
| Re: 2027: Peter Obi Or Akinwumi Adesina? by Penguin2(op): 11:58am On Feb 11, 2025 |
Racoon:Racoon you should be more realistic than this. 2 southerners as Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates in a political environment like Nigeria? |

DeLaRue:They have to choose between that gamble and Tinubu’s 8 years. And they know what will come with Tinubu’s 8 years. All their wings will be decapitated; and when Tinubu is done in 2031, he’d ensure a weak idiot from the north succeeds him so that nothing he has done will be undone. They have to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. |

Penguin2:The god of Politics is beyond all humans. Even when the former President Mumumodu Buhari and his cult group ganged up against JAGABAN using all state powers, he told them at the market square that he will be President, and it came to pass. If you couldn’t use the state’s powers to stop him, is it now that he is in control of power that you can stop him? This is the Kingmaker that made himself King. As for the whole community cooking for him, even if the whole Africa cooks for him, he will finish the food. |

He will easily be market cos he was one of the shining light of Jonathan presidency. When given the pdp ticket, he will easily unite most Pdp members. |
