And she was in the way. People need to learn we en to be considerate. She should have felt ashamed for needing to be tapped to be mindful of her surroundings but content must be created.

pocohantas:
The video clearly shows she is the one dragging and tearing his clothes. Yet she posted an AI generated explanation twisting events. This attitude of trying to make content everywhere is why many Lagos restaurants are coming up with no picture/video policy. They act like everyone needs to stop for them to shoot those silly dance videos.

She was making a video and moving backwards. If the man didn't stretch out his hand to tap her, she would have bumped into him in an inappropriate way.

Irrespective of the tap, for her to physically abuse him tells a lot. I hope she is rusticated.

You stand to be applauded my brother.
The narrator in that video is possibly an undergrad. Anyway let’s assume he’s an Engineering student who’s logically inclined than linguistically vested. Let’s assume English is difficult since it’s not our mother tongue.
God help us.

lexy2014:
how does all you said prove that the lecturer had "lordish-I'm-a-lecturer-motive"?

how did the lecturer "intentionally show up" in her video?

do you have any evidence to prove that the lecturer knew that the student was doing a video?

how is tapping someone from the back automatically an indication that the person tapping has a knife?

if a person tapping from the back has a knife, why will the person tap to get your attention and not just use the knife on you without tapping?

what is the essence of tapping from the front when the person is already in your front?

if the space was narrow according to you, why then cant he tap her so she could make more space since the area is an access way?
On tapping:
a person would tap, hold your shoulder then stab.

For a right-handed person, tap the shoulder with the left-hand, hold it down, and stab with the right-hand to have maximum effect.

Moving to stab from the back without holding down the shoulder, the victim may be able to turn back most easily and e.g. punch the assailant or easily remove whatever knife and potentially stab back.

tl;dr
If verdict is to be equitably made, they are both guilty of some things, the lady is more justified I'd say, and the lady could be recommended for therapy; and the lecturer counseled on healthy student-lecturer relationship.

That lecturer should have avoided her as much as possible, even if she was blocking the road, he should have gently eased himself around get.

After he walked away, because he heard her complain, he foolishly came back instead of moving on with his life.

When you see a woman videoing herself or taking selfies, gently stay well away. Nothing good will come out of any interaction with her.

Oga lecturer, las las she go beg and cry and you go gree.

I still don't get it.....

The lecturer had passed only for him to return just because he thought or he heard her use some insulting words. He came to enquire and to tell her to delete her video on the phone and because she refused he seized her phone.....
And the rest happened.....

Well, if I were the lecturer I would have used my phone and take a picture of her or wait till she has sent the purported video online and if I appear in it then I'll report to the school authorities and get my personal lawyer to ensure the case goes to court.....

He asking if she was his student was out of place because if she is she would have not over reacted to the point of biting him except there's more not said or captured.
Not everyone loves being subjected to ridicule. Imagine showing in a stupid tiktok video of a useless girl!🤷

Look at you? The lecturer has no single right to tap her. He has mouth. He should have said “excuse me”. Tapping any one is rude and could be term harassment. Some people could get into anxiety just by tapping them. Secondly, the lecturer cannot go back to demand an insult should be taken back or dragging someone else’s phone. How would you drag a phone with anyone? It is unprofessional

All he has is to initiate a school policy by reporting or sue her. He deserves all he got. You if want respect, you must first respect yourself. Most people will let go but not this girl. The lecturer learned the hard way. You don’t own anyone.
So, you would do such if you were the lady too? Biting a fellow human being? Disgracing an elderly man? I thought they say two wrongs don't make a right, and whatever your response is to a situation will show the kind of person you are.
You supporting the actions of an obvious mentally deranged human being does not speak well of you.

Take a look at the picture where he was trying to tap the lady, and check the angle he was standing at. Which shows there is still ample space for him to pass by. A polite non-lordish person would have passed that space and [s]told the lady from the side or at the front to contain the space she's occupying for passage of others.[/s] ./edited/ A polite non-lordish person would have utilized the very large space behind the lady to pass by and not intentionally bump into her, her video, start demanding her video to be deleted, forcefully taking her phone, and also holding her hands extremely tightly and not letting go despite intervention from other students. What, wants to break the lady's wrist?/edited/

Summarily, the man had enough space to pass by, while still narrow. But no, he intentionally showed up in her video and then demanding the video to be deleted. And then forcefully trying to take her phone from her.

Personally, for me, you tap me from the back? You could be holding a knife. I most likely would have punched you in the face and then checked if you were not holding a knife. You tap from the front or you call out.
A knife on a faculty corridor? Why don't you clap for yourself after tendering this cringe-worthy excuse in court? And why didn't she punch him immediately he tapped her back? That might have made your postulation not sound foolish before a judge.

See spinning. You guys are terrible at analysing issues. You even said the lecturer initiated the conflict. Na wa o.
I took my time to carefully scrutinize the video and because I recognize that I may be wrong with my earlier post. However, on close examination, I am doubling down on my stance for the following reasons::

Image highlight #1 - In the image below, the lecturer slightly shoved and objectively speaking, that is classified as assault under the Nigerian law

Section 252 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act defines assault as striking, touching, or applying force to another person without their consent.

Reiterating my earlier point, if she was truly obstructing the way, the lecturer could have verbally asked her to make way or utilize the ample space behind her.

Image Highlight #2 - According to corroborative testimonies from the lecturer and the student, the lecturer returned after she verbally criticized his behavior. Basically, he returned to verify if she was a student and subsequently attempted to seize her phone.

My perspective
First, the lecturer's return to the site of incident was a clear escalation of a situation that would have diffused. Beyond that, he tried to perform the job of a security personnel by making inquiries of the student instead of deferring to trained security persons if he had doubt on the student's right to be within the school premises.

His subsequent attempt to seize the phone is completely illegal and also classified as robbery in the Nigerian constitution. Section 401–403 define and prescribe punishments for robbery.
Robbery is generally defined as stealing with the use of force or violence.

I can go further but based on my careful scrutinization of the video, the student is well within her right to defend herself and the lecturer must be re-trained to understand his job functions as well as compensate the student for the damaged phone.

If the school decides to punish the student, I will advise her to get a good attorney, make an official report against the lecturer to start a criminal case then file charges in a competent court of law. Based on what I see, I can almost guarantee an unbiased judge will quickly adjudicate in her favour!

Yeah I know these forum is kinda faceless, but still, you shouldn't display your stvpidity and display your lack of comprehensive skill for the entire world to see. Now read slowly and try to comprehend it, Which part of my statement supports her attitude? Oh, perhaps this part? Knowing Nigerian lecturers, and how they operate. SMH for you then, money tragically down the drain.

This is Nigeria and not America. touching her is nothing, just to call her attention to shift.

nedekid:
From the video the lecturer touched her first. You do not put hands on a person, he could have easily said excuse me, she shifts then he passes. From the video too, one can observe she did not speak to him directly in her response but to someone on the right side of the screen obviously making a comment that the man taped her to shift. What the made the lecturer return to the picture which further escalated the situation?
The man should have just walked on, to hold on to her restricting her movement and demanding she identifies herself is a no no.
Bottomline Mr lecturer no handle himself well. He phone falling and breaking due to him struggling with her to delete the video is enough to make her go ballistic. In saner climes the lady has a good case.
NB. There is nothing wrong in this age of social media for a student to make a tiktok video on campus even in her department.

No, I won't fight anyone because it goes against my peace of mind. You said it well - two wrongs don't make a right. I wanted people to see that the lecturer was wrong from the begining. First, no honourable man will tap a girl on her shoulder or anywhere! You use your voice to be excused. I was a lecturer in Nigeria and outside of Nigeria. The ones outside of the country would smile for any student doing a video or content and ask politely to pass. Sometimes they will wait. The ones in Nigeria treat people like they are cow. He seems the lectuer already went red with anger seeing a student doing a content video for no reason. That is why he listened to an insult to ask what was said like he was God. He drags a phone with the owner smh. If you don't want to appear on a video, why go through the video view? He is a rude lecturer and got what he deserves. While young people must learn how to be respectful, adults need to learn too and be emotionally balanced.

The biting is the outcome of the fight. Once there is a fight, any side wants to win. Nothing is fair in love and war! I am more concerned at the root cause and what led the conflict to degerate to the level of fighting. I find the lecturer culpable.

Why not claim depression and mental insanity? Then use your mother to beg(the average man,can never ignore the plea of a woman begging for her child)

"A knife on a faculty corridor".
You must be imbecilic. You know, people are checked to not carry harmful objects before entry into your faculty corridor. Or an assailant, a potential criminal would be asking "is it ok to take knife to faculty corridor?", "is it ok to go kidnap chibok girls while in school?". You're imbecilic.
