Former Students Rally Behind FUOYE VC, Prof. Fasina Amid Allegations

Over 300 former students of the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, have voiced strong support for him, dismissing recent sexual harassment allegations as a coordinated attempt to tarnish his reputation.

In a statement signed by representatives of the 300 Agricultural Sciences alumni from 2007 to 2020, the ex-students described Prof. Fasina as a dedicated mentor, an ethical academic and a responsible family man, insisting that the allegations against him are politically and ethnically motivated.

The former students expressed concern over what they see as an orchestrated character assassination, particularly as FUOYE approaches its convocation and Prof. Fasina’s tenure nears its end.

They noted that certain dissatisfied individuals and media personnel with alleged personal grievances could be fueling the controversy.

We firmly believe that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Fasina cannot be found wanting in this matter. It is clear that some forces within the university are attempting to discredit his administration and incite chaos,” the statement read.

The statement highlighted Prof. Fasina’s commitment to student welfare, academic excellence and administrative reforms at FUOYE, under whose leadership, the institution was ranked 4th most sought-after university in Nigeria by JAMB, while he has also provided scholarships and financial aid to numerous students.

The alumni emphasized that Prof. Fasina has always protected students from harassment and intimidation, creating an enabling environment for learning.

While acknowledging the ongoing investigation by FUOYE’s governing council, chaired by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, the former students urged the public to wait for the panel’s findings before making conclusions.

They further warned against external interference, stating that sensational media reports could jeopardize the credibility of the investigation.

The alumni reaffirmed their unwavering solidarity with Prof. Fasina, insisting that the allegations are designed to undermine his four-decade-long career.

“We encourage everyone to reserve judgment until the facts are fully examined. We stand united in support of Professor Fasina, confident that his character and integrity will prevail against these baseless allegations,” the statement concluded.

Sadly, the court doesn't run on WHAT YOU BELIEVE or your status as EX-STUDENTS.

Besides, all the 300 are ex-students of one faculty, they are probably in one WhatsApp group that can easily be influenced. It would have had a little more weight if it was a mix of students vouching for him. I hope he is innocent sha.

As a man, you don't want to be in this situation because you will be mentally scarred whether you are guilty or not and it is worse when you are in a BIG FIGURE position. All the backtalk and doubt from your family, the society & clubs you belong to will nearly shatter you.

To bring a man down, just allege sex and he is done for. We haven't learned from the story of Joseph and Potipah'z wife or Prophet Yusuf and Zulaikha. Men are guilty as charged so adult men, try everything possible to avoid being in compromising situations with women even if it's innocently looking. You never can tell. You cannot vouch for anyone but from this story, it looks like they want to spin stories about the man so he steps down while they're investigating, that's why the students are defending him. Campus politics.

Simple. I dont know maybe it is cultural or behavioural, Nigerians are simply too bias in everything, such that the chance of justice being served is actually very low. These same people will join X conversations in few months on how sexual extortion is pervasive in our institutions.

He's innocent until proven otherwise by a court of competent jurisdiction, not even by a panel who's outcome can influenced.

The sexual harassment allegations damage is even less felt, more manageable in this part of the world. It destroys men completely in places like USA even if it turns out to be a lie

Don't say this until such happens to you and you feel the weight of the gossips and the stares and additional slander and speculation of things you didn't do. You don't want to be found in this position, guilty or not.

Humans change over time, so ex- students can't judge the present allegation on the basis of their experience with him.

Let the appropriate authority carry out their investigation to prove if he is innocent or not.

This is not a matter for parapo solidarity movements, the university authorities and if necessary, security operatives should conduct investigations necessary actions taken afterwards ie against the VC if found guilty or any of his alleged victims if they laid false allegations. Shikena cool

Silly question.
And who is not maintaining status quo here? The ex students of course. Common sense should have told you that these guys, the ex students behaviour to come out and defend the lecturer is out of line.

That's all? It is more than that in Oyinbo land. You're destroyed forever. You may not even get job, you won't even have friends again. I mean even when it is wrong accusation
