The noise about tech got into my head and I quit my 8-5 job. Though the 8-5 job was becoming stressful and toxic, I couldn't cope and had to leave. I had saved some funds and learned data analytics. Now here is where the issue lies. I've applied to more than a thousand jobs and I keep getting rejections. My hope was to get a remote job but I'm not seeing it coming. Is tech all about noise or it's just saturated? While learning , we were told a data analyst earns 30k USD annually. I'm just getting tired and frustrated |

Tech jobs are not as lucrative as before. It’s getting the cheaper and more difficult because most of the work is being outsourced to countries with cheaper labour. Gone are those days when the market was hot and expertise was scarce. The market is now over saturated |

Maybe the Tech bubble has busted, but with the Job positings I'm seeing now, I don't think so. On the other hand, why not work on some projects with some already established Data Analyst. You know the world we live now , Companies aren't Patient enough to hire rookies. Get some projects unto your resume. |

Data Analysis is SATURATED because everybody and their Mummies have gotten into it. Anybody who can write a SUMIF Function in Excel thinks he's a data analyst. And they'd apply for the same job as you. Even if you are more competent, your application is bound to get lost in the sea of other applications. And if you don't have a tech or maths related degree, that's another HURDLE. You have 2 options: 1. SPECIALISE: You can do this by selecting a specialisation like health or finance and streamlining your data analysis skill to that area of specialisation. You will need to learn industry lingos and data requirements that are relevant to that industry. Most sector that require data analysis in Nigeria is a SHIIITSHOW. The most mature of them is the banking and finance sector. So I'd advise you to specialise in Financial Analysis. CFAInstitutedotorg has valuable resources that'll help uou. Plus, you can BOLSTER your CV with ICAN certification. 2. GO DEEP: Here you just bury yourself deep into data analysis until you come out at the other end which is Machine Learning. ML is an integral part of AI and data analysis is an integral part of ML. Those are your 2 options. By the way, DISCARD the idea of getting a remote job. Most companies in Nigeria don't offer remote jobs. Maybe hybrid but NOT fully remote. And NO foreign company will entrust their SENSITIVE business data to a Nigerian living in Nigeria. For other people looking to get into tech, RESEARCH and choose a tech skill that's NOT dependent on getting a job. Learn a tech skill that'll set you on the path of entrepreneurship. Because the tech market is still a JOB market with all the problems that face a typical job market. Lile layoffs, job scarcities and low payments. Learn a skill that'll help you BUILD for YOURSELF. |

1Alex:Nigeria is not a destination among tech company’s to source for cheap labour. Never heard mass recruitment in Nigeria by tech companies. Major destination are always India, Lebanon, Pakistan, Philippines and the likes, and they are famous for their competence at a cheap price. |

Namaster:thanks for this. Thank God I learned e-commerce earlier. That's what is sustaining me. I want to study product marketing. I believe no knowledge is a waste. Data Analysis will still be useful to me someday. |

adaperry25:e-Commerce is GREAT! If you haven't done it yet, learn Search Engine (Google) Marketing and Social Media Marketing. They'll help you scale FASTER. And whatever you do, be sure to learn the BASICS of SEO. Specifically Local SEO. SEO is a skill that you can DEPLOY across MULTIPLE platforms to your advantage. It's NOT exclusive to traditional search engines. You can use it on TikTok, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Knowledge of SEO is the difference between naming your social media page "Adaperry Essence" and wasting away in digital obscurity OR naming your social media page "perfume vendor in Ikeja" and enjoying FREE visibility and more traffic to your business page. Look into this if you haven't. By the way, you are NOT wrong about the general usefulness of data analysis. Regardless of the job market, it's still a WONDERFUL skill to possess. |
