This is great advice. I realize that you are quite experienced with construction and everything related to renovations. I like your advice on choosing wood. Not too long ago I finished designing my roof with the help of https://ilroofers.com/ a service that deals with all roof related work. After speaking with them, they explained to me how important wood selection is and the differences between the different types of wood.

Moreso, can you still remember the name of the POP you bought because there are different brand names depending on ones pocket?

You're not in anyway remarketing POP installers because apart from installation and design, the production of POP, sponge and otters is not manufactured by them. Installers are just users.

Now, given that the POP fell down, what was it's final replacement?

I still thank God I stayed a little bit outside with friends that afternoon. Those in bedrooms were not suspended. They were just crown moldings.

I couldn't open my front door. I was thinking some terrestrial forces were behind the door that day, until I went to peep through one window and I saw rubbles of everything over my chairs and everywhere. Had to call my Niger maiguard then and other Togolese man who helped to force the door open.

Can’t really remember the brand name but I paid him for better materials and he bought it and used it. It’s a pity I lost my Blackberry phone that has pictures of everything about the construction then.

I replaced it with simple one with fiber cement board of 8mm thickness screwed to wood nogging.

I don't think you know Ibeju Lekki as much as you think you do. As a professional, I will suggest you ask question before making conclusion. It is not everywhere in Ibeju Lekki that is waterlogged.

In my opinion, it is better. Most of materials used for PoP are either fake or substandard. Many installers too cut corners and they don’t know what they are doing.
PoP in my house came down completely one day before I got home that year in 2014.

They are not properly hanged, even if they are nailed to a concrete ceiling. They will still come down, with time.

I am 100% certain that gypsum board can outlive PoP.

I am not out to spoil market for any PoP installer here or elsewhere o. I am stating known facts. They are heavier than boards and that’s why it is not safe to be underneath them and feel relaxed. They are like timed-bomb.

Another way to reduce their risk of falling down is to use a higher percentage of boards for the profiling than than normal PoP cement materials.

So Sorry about your experience, you got involved with contractors/Installers who don't know their onions. 🚫 This has happened to many others as well, it's really a bad situation, Last year i had to help a client whose pop dangerously fell, to build a sturdy one.

Pop has been in existence for many years and it's one of the oldest building & artistic materials in history.
have done quite a few Pop projects for some Nlanders some i haven't even met them in person, and am certain it won't fall, that's an Assurance not a bluff".

I've shared severally on this Platform (check back on old pages of this thread) the pros & cons of doing a Pop false ceiling in buildings, what to expect, what not to expect, recommendations for clients, Pop in decking areas etc

My Answer : Pop is reliable for decorative & interior applications but not suitable for structural strength or outdoor use without proper treatment.

My problem in that axis is salt from the sea.
I don't think you guys have solution for that yet

We have weathershield paint and hydrophobic ( water resistant) weathershield paint for coastal area. I've supplied member here and was informed it was still intact after several years.

Yes sir. The solvent based paint we use for floor paint would work perfectly. It's ultraviolet resistant, waterproof and withstand traffic well.
