Sibongile Dlamini, the wife of murdered South African police officer Constable Banele Sikhosana, was arrested for allegedly hiring hitmen to kill him. Her arrest came just hours after she was seen weeping at his burial.

Constable Sikhosana, an officer with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), was fatally shot on February 7, 2025, while opening his tuck shop in Rest, Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni. The gunmen also took his service pistol.

Authorities later arrested Nhlizitozabantu Magwanyana at the Kwa-Thema Hostel. During interrogation, Magwanyana confessed to carrying out the killing and claimed he was hired by Sikhosana’s wife, with the final payment allegedly made shortly after the murder.

Acting EMPD chief of police Julius Mkhwanazi confirmed that one more suspect remains at large, though an arrest is expected soon.

Investigators also revealed that this was not the first attempt on Sikhosana’s life. Reports indicate that Dlamini had allegedly tried to poison him just a week before the fatal shooting. Sikhosana was on sick leave recovering from the suspected poisoning when he was gunned down.

A memorial service for the fallen officer was held at his home on Thursday, February 13. However, on Friday afternoon, February 14, while preparing for his funeral, Dlamini was taken into custody by police. Sikhosana’s funeral proceeded as planned on Saturday, February 15.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges related to the officer’s murder.

Meanwhile, social media has been abuzz with reactions after a photo surfaced showing that the deceased had paid Dlamini’s bride price in December 2024, just months before his tragic demise.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, with many shocked by the alleged betrayal that has come to light.

GAUTENG - Sibongile Prudence Dlamini (42) has joined first accused Nhliziyozabantu Magwanyana (34) when they appeared before the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 February 2025, for the murder of an Ekurhuleni Metro Police officer, Banele Skosana (32).

Skosana was killed on Friday, 07 February 2024 in Vilakazi Street in Kwa Thema. It is alleged that the deceased was offloading stock from his vehicle for a tuckshop he co-owns with with Sibongile Dlamini when he was ambushed by two unknown men who fired shots at Skosana fatally wounding him and fled the scene.

Second accused, Sibongile Dlamini who is the wife of the deceased officer was arrested on Friday, 14 February 2025, after she was linked to the murder, while accused one Magwanyana was arrested at a hostel in Kwa Thema on 10 February 2025.

Dlamini made here first appearance at Springs Magistrates Court together with co-accused Magwanyana on Monday, 17 February 2025 where the matter was postponed to Friday, 21 February 2025 for further investigations.
