President Buhari wasn't present. Why?

Egbon naptu2, you addressed IBB as "president Babangida". He was a "Head of States" nah! He wasn't a democratically-elected leader. Or, is there something I am missing? You can school me. I am always willing and ready to learn from you, sir!
Ibrahim Babangida used the title president from August 27th, 1985 till August 27th, 1993. He is the only military president in Nigeria's history.

President Buhari had earlier telephoned President Babangida to tell him that he won't be able to make it. He sent a former minister as representative.

President Obasanjo also thought that he won't be able to make it, so he wrote a speech. He read the speech as if he wasn't present, even though he was right there.

Photo 1) President Tinubu shakes hands with President Obasanjo while President Babangida watches.

Photo 2) President Goodluck Jonathan, President Bola Tinubu, President Ernest Bai Koroma (former president of Sierra Leone) and General Yakubu Gowon.

Photo 3) President Tinubu, President Nana Akufo-Addo (former president of Ghana), President Ibrahim Babangida and Mohammed Babangida.
Took a good look at these pictures. You will realize ;
1. These people are from various tribes, igbo, yoruba & Hausa majorly
2. IBB gave them continual support after opportunities to be successful. Imagine getting an oil block for $1m
3. Most have been at loggerheads, enemies but are now friends.
4. These people are rich are part of the people directly or indirectly impacting our economy.

It's now clear to me that only a poor average Nigerian
practices tribalism. These elites have a solid network irrespective of tribe.

Now instead of an average Nigerian from The South West or South East to think of how to be financially free and enlighten his people, they come online on Nairaland looking drug trafficking post to Throw banters at the igbos or look for skull mining activities in South West, to throw shades at the Yorubas while you will never see a core northerner indulge in such frivolous activities.

People should have sense!
3. Most have been on time

Did you see Buhari there?
No, because he doesn't go to places where the discuss intellectual matters.

Tinubu was busy smiling when Osibanjo was naming IBB's classmates,if anyone dared him to mention his classmates am sure he would just close his brown teeth.
If U believe Tinubu don't go to school or not a university graduate, U need serious attention.

So to you these criminals and failures that destroyed Nigeria and made it the joke of a country it is today are leaders?

I really thank God no Igbo man is among them. It goes to show that Igbos have no hand in the destruction of Nigeria and if Nigerians had sense enough, they ought to have gathered and handed over to this Igbo man Igbos are hyping so much to see what he can do.

Hausa-Fulanis and Yorubas destroyed Nigeria and made it the joke and failure of a nation it is today, they should be ashamed of themselves and not gathering to celebrate rubbish and lie to themselves to feel good.

The sentence "youths are the leaders of tomorrow" is the most abused sentence.

How can the youth be so when old and wrinkled men refuse to leave power? They even go as far as changing their date of birth to accommodate more years!
is it refuse tp leave power abi refuse to die ! i said that basically cos of the mortality rate of young ones these days
Clark, adebanjo cross 90, then we still see all these old names actively going up and down, travelling and doing rigorous activities so called youths will do n break down

its baffles me how the youths are diein these days .. i lost two people these year n they are less than 40. health is wealth but street don radicalize us to believe only Money is wealth.
Looking at all these old men, i cant help but say pls take care of yourselves

Nigerians are very senseless people, especially Yorubas, I don't really understand them.

All they care is position and photo op.

See how they are celebrating criminals and failures that failed Nigeria and made Nigeria the joke and failure of a country it is today.

Their only joy is seeing their fellow Yorubas being mentioned as President this and that, ask them how these people impacted their lives positively, they will become dumb.

Some of them Japaad abroad to where they are now working and toiling under extreme cold temperatures to earn a living simply because these criminals and failures failed them as leaders and made Nigeria a miserable country that Nigerians can hardly survive without engaging in illegalities and crime but still they are celebrating them to pepper Igbos in their foolish minds.

This is nothing but a gathering of corruption, criminals and failures who had the opportunity to build a great nation for generations to come but failed to do so and are now being celebrated by some of their foolish countrymen and youths angry

Peter Obi @PeterObi

Today, I had the gracious honour of attending the launch of President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s long-awaited autobiography, A Journey in Service, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

IBB’s contributions to Nigeria’s economy and his strong support for entrepreneurship and private sector growth remain immeasurable.

Under his leadership, Nigeria witnessed substantial growth, particularly in the financial sector. He played a key role in fostering a united and equitable Nigeria, and economic landscape, ensuring policies that strengthened national cohesion and economic development.

Documenting such experiences is a welcome development, as it allows us to learn from those who have served and left a lasting impact on the nation. I look forward to reading this book, which undoubtedly holds valuable lessons. As someone committed to continuous learning, I will always align myself with knowledge drawn from documented experiences and historical records as well as contributing to the legacy library.

Two Key Takeaways from the Keynote Address and IBB comment on the 1993 election.

1. The 1st is the keynote Speaker's notable quotation in French, "Rien n’a changé" meaning "Nothing much has changed." In the case of Nigeria, we are worse off than we were during IBB’s era. Using our contemporary peers as a benchmark, when IBB left office in 1992, countries like Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, and Ghana were all in the low Human Development Index (HDI) category—just like Nigeria. Today, however, these nations have advanced to medium and high HDI levels, while Nigeria remains in the low HDI category, having either stagnated or declined.

2. The Keynote speaker's comment that Ghana has remained a truly democratic country for the past 30 years, with leadership transitions that reflect the genuine votes of the people. Unlike Nigeria, where electoral outcomes often fail to reflect the people’s will, Ghana has witnessed instances where ruling party candidates conceded defeat, respecting democracy in its truest form.

Lastly of the most profound moments of the event was IBB’s admission that Chief MKO Abiola won the June 12 election. This acknowledgement is a step toward national healing, unity and progress of our nation.

I hope that one day, other key players in Nigeria’s democracy will find the courage to recognize the true winners of past elections, allowing our nation to tell its story with honesty and reflection.

A New Nigeria is POssible!

oyeb15:
He did not nail d real issue. What happened in June 12, could be traced back to d assassination of General Murtala. And d cruel execution of some innocent officers eg Gen Bisiala etc

The speech Murtala gave was similar to d one MKO gave. Steering Nigeria away from Neocolonialism.
IBB bow to foreign powers to annul in what M16, CIA classified as security concerns.
Abacha did not follow d West neither d West like MKO but they made sure they keep him in good contact.
When they got Abacha though Yessar Arafat bodyguard handshake, Abiola assumed his mandate is sure. He went into a trap. This same West pressurized IBB and Abubakar to hand over power to Civilian and support their choice.

For IBB to say Abacha pressurized him to annul June 12 is ballant lie.
Obj made sure he never honor MKO and also tag Abacha investment and hight stakes abroad when our currency was strong 'Abacha Loot'.

Nigeria is built on a very bad foundation
You are very correct.

The only mistake I see Tinubu making is inflicting excruciating pain on poor Nigerians but breaking the Northern cabals that have placed their plates on Nigeria's head while eating from it, I love that!
All their strong holds, all their illegal acquisitions of oil rigs, mining sites etc should be dismantled and withdrawn from them
The country still belongs to all and not just Northerners alone.
Can you just imagine how 2 people (2 fucking Northeners) donated 8billion to a fucking library of a fucking retired Criminal!!!
You can imagine ! afterall that struggle, emancipation and fighting the military cos of the people, only to become President and you are treating the people worst
Tinubu govt even throw kids into cell for treason, then how are you better off the babagida you demonized

During his reign ,he was also addressed as 'President Ibrahim Babangida' . I think he changed it from head of state to president.
At a time, Civilians were govs. while he was president/head of state.

Generals Buhari and Babangida reconciled in the early 2000s. Orji Uzor Kalu was one of the people that reconciled them.

After the reconciliation, they both rode in the same car to attend an event.

Buhari and Babangida often joked together at National Council of State meetings when Buhari was president (this was before Babangida was confined to a wheelchair).

naptu2:
Back in September. . .

Obasanjo: "Mr President, you are welcome back from Ghana".

Buhari: "Welcome to the Villa Sir".

Last week. . .

Buhari to Gowon: "Morning Sir the Overlord".

Buhari to IBB: "Ibro, how are we?"
Babangida: "Ranka ya dade".

We will soon read critics of the book, and by the grace of God more books will be written to counter IBB. Mad man wants to rewrite history. History will never be kind to him. He is the main person who destroyed Nigeria. Oloriburuku somebody.

Osinbajo even reviewed his book. I understand the reason God rejected him as the president of Nigeria. A wolf calling himself a pastor. As in how on earth will any righteous human review anything from IBB. Mehn!

IBB no go die well. Na me tell you. History will be hard on him. This book he has written to portray himself righteous and put the blame only on Abacha will be nullified.

Did he ever mention who killed Dele Giwa in the book? Did all those people celebrating him ask3d him there? They should remember that Dele is human like them too. Mad people celebrating themselves.

Just that we don't go about planning the death of others. Otherwise, honestly...everyone in that gathering doesn't deserve Nigeria again.

It is well. God will see us through.

What i find more disheartening is, prominient names that where with MKo abiola during the struggle, called themselves activist were clapping for IBB when he said he annulled the election that took Nigerians hope/life, in the supreme interest of the nation, even Tinubu was there clapping for the man that annulled june 12

After everything IBB did and the lives he took, see the way they were donating in billions to Maradona, a man actively involved in more coups.

those that died for Nigeria democracy will be in tears yesterday, 17billion donated for inhumanity journey of service.

i salute Buhari for standing by his principle
