Port Harcourt, Warri refineries commence production, says NNPC

July 30, 2015

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Wednesday announced that Port Harcourt and Warri refineries have successfully restarted production after a nine-month phased rehabilitation programme.

Re-streaming of production at the two facilities followed the completion of technical repairs by in-house engineers and technicians, the NNPC said.

The Spokesperson for the corporation, Ohi Alegbe, said both plants commenced preliminary production of petroleum products after successful test-runs.

He said Port Harcourt refinery has already raised its operational capacity to about 60 per cent of its 210, 000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity, while production at Warri refinery was projected to hit 80 per cent of installed 125,000 bpd capacity.

Mr. Alegbe said the Port Harcourt Refinery was projected to boost the nation’s local refining capacity with a product yield of five (5) million litres of petrol per day, while Warri Refinery would contribute about 3.5 million litres of petrol to local refining capacity.

If you think you can get it cheaper, please do.

It doesn't put as much demand for the dollar as we had in the past.

Competition is also welcomed.
We spent 5 billion dollars importing in the last 3 months , it's at par with what obtained

You guys here complaining about monopoly are very daft.

You watched for 8 years + how this man suffered to build a refinery that now works. None of you thought it right to hold your government accountable.

All of you folded your hands and kept quiet... Now you're all shooting Monopoly.

Dangote is a businessman and like every other business, goes for profit. He doesn't give a shot about solving your government problems. If your government isn't working. Change it.

What conscience? Why does he want to monopolise everything? He can’t have it all . For a business to thrive , it needs a good competitior!

Dangote should sell his own while marketers import theirs that will make the price go down...Dangote is reducing price now because he wants to sell cheaper than marketers, imagine if there are no marketers.... monopoly is bad for the people

If we have it and refine it why is it still as expensive as imported one? We don't need monopoly
Re: Dangote Refinery Has 500 Million Litres Of PMS In Stock by thesolutions(m): 5:34pm On Feb 21, 2025
If marketers are not making gains from importation of these products, they won't dare import anything.
Dangote wanted to bypass the major marketers and sell directly to petrol station marketers/independent marketers to deny importers their business gains. They were campaigning for these importers to sell their tank farm instead of making it easy for them to continue their business by selling to them at reasonable rate so that they can save some expenses they would have encured should they import these products.
His selfishness could not be hidden. He went as far as subverting NNPC shares in his refinery.

If not that these business men are alike, I would suggest that government place dangote sales on a tariff while encouraging others willing to work with government and these importers with subsidies to cut the outflow of our forex on these imports.

This will put dangotes profit in check while the government saves more forex expended on these imports.

The challenge with importation is that you use up the unavailable foreign exchange for this business.

The petrol they are is importing will be the one ph refinery will sell

You don't understand what monopoly means, nnpc will not tell you it's importing cos of monopoly, highest it will say cos of availability

Sebi they say pH refinery is working, let's assume they have sold all crude, why don't they import crude instead of petrol

Either Dangote reduce his price to be atleast 10-15% cheaper than imported PMS or he should export to other countries or make him use the 500 million litres cook groundnut soup.
BTW, fuel is currently 2600-3000 naira per litre in Bangui, CAR.
If Nigerians can't afford abeg go sell for people wey need am.

You all are so quick to use the word 'monopoly' when it comes to dangote. Look at Elon Musk and what's he's doing in the EV business, Internet, and Space. Why is no one accusing him of monopolyhuh That's because Americans will be the first to benefit.

If it's easy..why don't you have other entrepreneurs doing it.
