Veteran journalist and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu says Nigeria is yet to recover from the chaos from Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida plunged the country into by annuling the June 12 1993 presidential election. Babangida, on Thursday, expressed regret over the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, acknowledging that the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, MKO Abiola, won the poll. In the concluding section of the 12th chapter of his autobiography launched Thursday in Abuja, titled, ‘A Journey In Service,’ IBB, who blamed the late Sani Abacha, described the annulment of the election as an “accident of history.” Admitting his error, the ex-military leader said, “Although I am on record to have stated after the election that Abiola may not have won the election, upon deeper reflection and a closer examination of all the available facts, particularly the detailed election results…there was no doubt that MKO Abiola won the June 12 election”. Speaking during an interview on TVC, Momodu said he is happy that Babangida is now living with the regrets of annulling the election. According to him, Nigeria is yet to recover from the chaos that trailed the annulment of the election. “We must his respect his decision, that is his personal decision and I’m happy that he is living with it and he has taken full responsibility for that action which put Nigeria into total chaos. In fact, I don’t think we have recovered from that action till today”. “On June 12 1993, Nigerians united for once to vote for one man without considering religion, ethnicity or anything. And we missed that opportunity. Today, we are fighting on account of religion, ethnicity and all what not. That Abiola election would have sealed it finally that we are one”. https://thescrutinyng.com/2025/02/21/june-12-nigeria-yet-to-recover-from-the-chaos-ibb-plunged-the-nation-into-momodu/

Babangida spoke the undeniable truth—that the 1966 coup was not an Igbo coup—and now, the willfully blind are clawing their way out of self-dug graves of ignorance, choking on their own delusions. Tufiakwa!. Nigeria is truly shocking. Expect more of these shock reactions next week. You will realize the problems of Nigeria are one and the same but manifesting in different shapes and colors |

kettykin:It's mere manipulation. He is called MARADONA and an EVIL GENIUS for a reason. For him to even say he had no knowledge about the annulment of June 12 but push the crime on late Abacha infact tells you that IBB is taking his Evil with him to his grave. What you don't know is, IBB's statement about Kaduna Nzeogu being more Hausa than Igbo only show nothing but BETRAYAL. Perhaps the Hausas saw him as one of their own but he showed them he wasn't in the bloodiest way. One which despite being 'Hausa' with an Igbo name had not a single Northern HAUSA or FULANI Solider even if a Christian that participated along side with him. |

We talk too much in this country. In saner climes that goat should be facing trial at the moment and risk the loss of all he has acquired over time. There is no difference between IBB, Ojukwu, Kaduna Nzeogu and Aguiyi Ironsi. Their modern day counterpart are more crafty this time around and you find them in the person of Obi, Nnamdi Kanu, Simon Ekpa, Elrufai and Buhari. They are not nationalist, all wolves in sheep clothing. |

Ibo people and lies. They claimed other tribe participated in the coup ok let agree with their lies for once. How come only Ibo officers killed tafawa balewa, ahmadu bello, mimilari, okotie eboh, ademulegun, pam, akintola, and co. I also believe awolowo would have been murdered if not that he was imprisoned. And left aguiyi Ironsi, nnamdi azikwe, okpara, ojukwu, and other ibo leaders alive. How many people were killed by the non-igbo officers who they falsely claimed participated in the coup |

This is a grevious offence by IBB and his cohorts. We Yoruba will never forgive him for hurting us this bad. IBB denied my late dad the position of a minister in Abiolas govt if he had Been sworn in as our President that same yr. I cry each time I remember this. Who knows life would have been better for me and family now but today we are poorer than ever. Though I wasn't born in 1993 but before my parents died, they narrated everything to me. It's well |

Let's move on and stop this endless whining about a 31-year old event. Imagine if Buhari had lost 2015 election, millions of people (possibly including me ) would have continued to lament about how Buhari would have turned Nigeria into London within 4 years. |

RenaissanceGuy:I swear bro. You're right. Buhari actually deceived us. We thought he was the savior and messiah, little did we know that he was coming to destroy the country completely and to finish what Jonathan started. I was among those who campaigned for, and mobilized voters to vote for him in 2015. I rolled in the gutters in excitement the day Jega declared Buhari a winner. I was overjoyed. |

Nothing he did. Others has done something worse than his. Tinubu rigged himself in , a day will come when he will write his own an appologized to Peter Obi. Buhari will also appologized to Atiku for rigging in 2009. Etc |
