That assumption that Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo GCFR SAN was going to be released from prison by the highly irresponsible January 1966 "school boy" coup plotters and then installed as Nigeria's new political leader is historically false, totally idiotic and an afterthought! Awolowo would have CLEARLY rejected the offer. Period.

After, the January 1966 coup plotters (led by Ifeajuna and others) had brutally killed a lot of regional politicians such as Sir. Ahmadu Bello, Sir. Tafawa Balewa, Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh of Itsekiriland, and several senior and junior military officers from the Northern Region and Western Region, WITHOUT assassinating any officer OR politician from the Eastern Region, there is absolutely NO WAY Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, (A London School of Economics and Political Science law graduate, who was framed up by the Balewa/Zik political alliance and wrongly jailed alongside Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Pa Anthony Enahoro and other great leaders of the Action Group) would have allowed himself to be released from prison and then installed as Nigeria's new leader after the killings of those men and women because the Northern Region would have launched reprisal attacks and killed Awolowo as well thinking him to be part of the coup plotters.

Besides, when Aguiyi Ironsi illegally got into power thereby further entrenching the belief in the psyche of other Nigerians that the coup of January 1966 was an Igbo coup that was hijacked by the Igbos to dominate other Nigerians, WHY didn't he release Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, Pa Anthony Enahoro and other innocent leaders in jail until General Yakubu Gowon's administration did it?

The Edo State-born, former Newswatch and New York Times investigative journalist, Dele Giwa's death via the FIRST EVER of its kind parcel bomb assassination in 1986 in his off Allen Avenue residence in Ikeja, Lagos was clearly a state-sponsored military intelligence kind of operation by the dictatorship to silence him from his investigative journalism which was spot on unlike the toxic nonsense and guessworks you have from younger wannabes like Hundeyin and others that lack bite and credibility.

About the coup he said before. Infact he’s one of the fine Military personnel that went on to say the it was perceived as an Igbo coup because it failed in west. It was a half victory coup and among the plotters, 2 Yoruba officers is part of the plotters Nzeugo Kaduna is from delta Igbo I.E from Bendel

I haven’t read the book but many lies and deceits have been highlighted by those who have.

Lie:
1). He says Awolowo was annoyed at him for banning old politicians in sept 1987. However Awolowo had died in May 1987 months before the decree was enacted.
