Babangida was not the first person that stated that Awolowo was to be the chief beneficiary of that coup. Other senior coup insiders have made the same allegation. Babangida was just the last person to accurately repeat that allegation.

I also doubt whether Babangida alleged that the July coup was not a northern coup, so if he took part in it, I won't be surprised that he killed innocent Igbos.

The major point is that Awolowo was the main reason those innocent Igbos were killed.

He doubled down on this move by making starvation an instrument of war, which he gleefully used to try exterminate the Igbos.
As though that wasn't enough, he was the chief architect of giving Igbos 20 pounds in exchange for whatever thousands they may have in the banks.

Basically, with Babangida's book, a clearer picture is being drawn, of Awolowo and his wickedness
