Awolowo was busy pacifying SEasterners whereas Akintola didn't give a fvck about Igbos.. irony of life.

We know the reason Sardauna was killed in the January 15, 1966 igbo coup was because of his pro-North policies, kicking Igbos out from Northern civil service that they used British influence to hold pre-independence.

Same with Akintola, he was killed because of his pro-Yoruba policies and his 'Yoruba ronu' campaign for Yorubas to wake up and take back their region from outsiders taking up all the jobs in Yorubaland.

The above reasons are why Igbo soldiers struck, thinking they could wipe out those leaders of thought from other regions in order for them to continue their ethnic domination agenda. Their intent was evident when Aguiyi Ironsi became Head of State and quickly made decree abolishing the regional system of Government that Nigerians opted for.. I've said it and will continue saying it that the Igbos laid the foundation of the Nigeria we have today, the only difference is that Hausa/Fulanis hijacked the structure to consolidate power and place North at an advantage over South.
