IBB: If It "WASN'T An Igbo Coup; Why Was Aguinyi Ironsi Killed? by TheNobleProphet(op): 8:26am On Feb 23, 2025
Based on what IBB wrote in his recently published book, he explained that the 1966 January coup "wasn't an Igbo Coup"!

Please, with all honesty and for the sake of posterity, I'll like IBB to answer as well as clarify why General Aguinyi Ironsi was gruesomely murdered by "mostly soldiers of Northern extraction" after the January coup of 1966.

The world should ask IBB to give a detailed answer to the question above because whatever he has confessed so far seem like "half truth"!

NO insults, please!!

They started killing igbos enmass in the North since 1945. Its all about jealousy...... At the slightest chance to blame or kill Igbo the North jumps at it. Igbos were still being killed in mass in the North up to the early 90s. It's all about jealousy.

Just like the Yoruba Muslims like you will always look for a reason, mostly imagined to blame igbos.

Who was to become president after the coup?

When you get the answer, you will know who plan the coup.

Jealousy of what or who?

You idiots think any way is as covetous as you .

Till this day you still use this jealousy trope when it is evident that you have nothing in you that will make any one envious of you.

I am not sure most people have read the book. My opinion of what he meant is that the initial intention was not exactly clear, that it was an Igbo. He is of the opinion that it was perhaps for national interest. However, he admitted that during the execution of the coup, it soon had significant Igbo coloration, which was clearly stated.

The answer is simple. Yorubas used their fake media to tag the first coup an Igbo coup and then incite the Hausas to do a counter coup to kill Igbo officers.

From your primary school to the highest level of education in Nigeria Igbo's are programmed to be better than you. Ask the ministry of education about cutoff marks.

What do you have that the Igbo man wants to covert?
Igbo pay cash for anything they own. Unlike your people that depend on skewed and corrupt government policies and patronage to thrive the Igbo thrives by share self effort revolving on hard work , enterprise and diligence.
More than halt of the private land in FTC is owned by igbos and all this land was paid for by Cash. Unlike your people that depend on government allocation to own land which they would later sell to the Igbo.
Look at the video below to get clarity on the jealousy against the industrious stature of the Igbo I will also send you akintola's tirade.

I get your point clearly.

So the Igbos decided to "punish" him for launching "hate attack" towards them by "killing" him and his "contemporaries" while Azikiwe was "far away" in the UK and USA boasting that "he is invincible" as well as granting interviews where he "showed NO empathy" towards the "dastardly incident" that led to the death of Tafawa Balewa, Ahmad Bello, Akintola and others killed!

I'll give two (2) reasons why Murtala Muhammed was assassinated.

First, the way Murtala Muhammed "prosecuted" the civil war at that time was "perceived extremely ruthless" and it resulted to "so many personal scores" to settle especially the "Asaba massacre" incident!

Secondly, Murtala Muhammed "openly challenged" so many foreign powers because of the "brutal oppression" towards the "now ungrateful South Africans" during "apartheid era" to the extent that he threatened to send Nigerian troops to "dislodge" the "apartheid regime" at that time!

Because they spread the lie that it was an ethnically motivated coup with a view to putting an Igbo man in power. They don't like to mention the fact that the only reason that Igbo man was in power was because the coup failed.

Where does it say it was an "Igbo coup"? He outright says the coup plotters had a nationalist agenda, not an ethnically motivated one.

The only reason you people call it an Igbo coup is because it led to Aguiyi-Ironsi taking over. However, you people always fail to mention that the only reason that happened was because the coup failed.

Had it succeeded, Obafemi Awolowo would have become the prime minister and no one would be saying this "Igbo coup" nonsense.

You think you can twist? 🤣🤣

On the contrary, a few of the coup plotters were promoted. These confirmed rumours that an Igbo domination of national affairs was in the works

Are you sure about that?

Contrary to a promise given after the coup was quashed that the coup plotters would be tried, none was ever brought to trial, although some were detained. On the contrary, a few of the coup plotters were promoted. These confirmed rumours that an Igbo domination of national affairs was in the works.

Putindbutt:
You think you can twist? 🤣🤣
On the contrary, it is you who is twisting this narrative by only highlighting the last part of that paragraph.

This is the whole paragraph:

These rumours were amplified by stories of some Igbos gloating over the January killings. Contrary to a promise given after the coup was quashed that the coup plotters would be tried, none was ever brought to trial, although some were detained. On the contrary, a few of the coup plotters were promoted. These confirmed rumours that an Igbo domination of national affairs was in the works.
Here, IBB is trying to get you (the reader) to try to understand what these Northern soldiers were feeling/thinking at the time. That's why he mentions all of the stories and rumours they were hearing then. Then he mentions that, whilst some were detained, some of the coup plotters were given promotions. So, this confirmed to them (at that time) that the coup must have had an Igbo agenda.

Essentially, he is trying to explain why so many in the North believed it (at that time) to be an "Igbo coup" and why they killed so many Igbos in the second coup and its aftermath.

The fact that he clearly says that the leaders of the coup had a nationalist agenda (not an ethnic one) suggests that he later discovered that it was not an ethnically motivated coup. It was not an "Igbo coup".

I really wish Nigeria would allow its people to study history at school. A good history student will tell you that it's not just learning about events that happened in the past; it's about learning how to analyse sources, assess the reliability of these sources and to 'read between the lines'.
