That is the very reason why you guys kept insisting that the coup was not an Igbo coup. Why? Because deep down the Igbos don't consider Kaduna Nzweogwu to be an Igbo man and despite the catastrophic circumstances that befell those people they still don't want to have sense.

Some of you are brain dead. If the coup was aimed at feeling Awolowo, then Why should they kill those who are not remotely connected to the crisis in the western region? Merely looking at the casualities in the coup, one will see that Akintola and Balewa were the main targets of the coup because of their collective actions that resulted in the wild wild west crisis. Before the coup, yorubas were already carrying out "operation weti" against Akintola supporters. The military boys only carried out that operation weti on a grander scheme, because they were obviously in line with the Awolowo philosophy and wanted an end to Akintola madness, which was supported by Balewa.

Once you understand this fact, it becomes easier to see that the coup was not an Igbo coup, even if the participants were majority Igbos. The military was not a regional organization but a federal one. There is no way the Igbo soldiers could have carried out such a coup and hold on to power by subjugating others. They never had the military and man power to do that in a country that they were never the majority. How would they have faced the British and other western countries, even African countries who were in high alert clamouring for end to oppression? It's simply unimaginable.
We can all agree that the coup was sense less and too extreme, but saying that it was an Igbo coup to dominate other Nigerians is pure madness and lack of thinking faculty.
