The coup was botched and the the Senate President-Nwafor Orizu an igbo man who could have called for the formation of another civilian government, decided to hand power over to another Igbo man. Then an igbo man became president - beneficiary of the coup. The people that carried out the coup-mostly igbo majors were caught but the new head of state, an igbo man(beneficiary of the coup) decided not to try them after pressure from other officers of non-igbo extraction to have the coup conspirators tried.

In summary, igbo soldiers led a coup, that targeted and killed non-igbo leaders and spared igbo leaders, an igbo man caught the coup plotters, the senate president who is a also an igbo man then transmitted power to the igbo man that caught the coup plotters, the caught copu plotters were not tried as expected and demanded severally.....
