For someone who lives in England - That was a dumb comment.
That said, he shares the comments with a lot of Managers including Pep who doesnt have a single African for fear of loosing them in January and Feb during the event.
We need to package the event well. Get our players to be more engaged and create rivalries.
Invite the winners of Copa America to play Euro Cup, Afcon and Asia Cup winners and call it SuperCup or something.

Jamie Carragher might not be the best of pundits (you'll know this, if you follow UEFA Champions League football match day on CBS) but I'll say he's right on this one. Even CAF hardly use AFCON as a criteria for winning African Player of the Year. Since i started watching football as a kid, I can pinpoint a particular year that an APOY won the award because of their performance on the biggest tournament in African football.
So una expect outsiders to say una mama food sweet when una no dey rate una mama food.

can you pls list all the african players of the year till date and kindly state the criteria that was used to give them the award?

When Adebayor, Aubameyang, Salah, Drogba, Toure, Riyad Mahrez, Samuel Etoo, Kanoute and co won it, the didn't win the award because they did well at the AFCON, the all won because of their exceptional season they had with their respective clubs.
Even Ademola Lookman (though he had a good AFCON outing) didn't win it because of the AFCON, he did because he got Atalanta to the UEFA Champions League (Italian League top 4) and single handedly won Atalanta Europa League.
Ask yourself why didn't Mohamed Abou Trika win the African Player of the year with all he did with Egypt national team and Al Ahly?
