Is Photography The Right Path For Me, Or Should I Move On? by UnclePrincipal(op): 7:26am On Feb 25, 2025
Hello,

Lately, I've been thinking of quitting my photography career. Why? Well, I think I'm just not good at it, or maybe people don't like my photographs. This year marks five years since I started my photography journey, and I have barely improved.

I used to be a freelance photographer, but I was barely getting clients. I think I only got about seven people to patronize me throughout my five-year journey as a photographer. To survive, I had to take on odd jobs. I thought maybe my introverted nature was the reason I wasn't getting clients, so I decided to work for someone instead.

At the beginning of January, I applied for a photographer role at a studio and was employed. However, this February, someone from the management told me that I would soon be fired because the CEO doesn’t like my edits. Yesterday, the studio posted a vacancy for a photographer on all their platforms. This confirmed what the person told me, and it hurt me so much—I felt like a failure.

Honestly, I've done a lot to improve my photography and retouching, but I don’t think I'm making progress. I’m also not getting any younger, as I’m already 28. I feel this might be the best time for me to quit photography and find a new career path.

What do you think? Please advise me.

Hmmm..... It's hard to advise anyone to quit a "job" - I say job because, even if they fire you, they're not exactly sacking you out of photography as a career.

Also, before embarking on this career path, did you find it interesting? Cos, I believe being more than 5years in a field is enough to make you a demigod - I'd say.

If you decide to quit this field now, do you have anything to fall back on?

Do you have sample of your works (not people's private photo o - maybe edit a generic photo from a stock image site, then send to the thread, let us see - or send a link to your portfolio if you have one).

when we say cocoa farm doesn't mean only cocoa. When clear the forest , first you plant yam, corn, plantain, pineapple banana.in a year you start cashing in on plantain and bananas. You plant cocoa, orange, apron(ogbono) kola, coffee walnuts palm tree and so on

Like a crop rotation. After some types of crops are harvested, you plant another set of different crops. Am correct?

nope not crop rotation ooo.
Only yam and corn 8 months and 3 months respectively. After that the rest stay as long as nature permits.
They are perennial crops

Okay. Thank you.

My last question. How do you get customers? How do you market, so people can come to you and buy?

Take my advise.
Go to malls n take pictures of people n get paid n transfer it to their phones..
This is a business that's lucrative and so many young boys are doing it here in South Africa.
These boys dey dress fine n wear expensive clothing.

What customer?
As you are harvesting from farm, buyers won't let you rest . You don't look for buyers, they look for you at all cost.

Wow.

Cool.

Thanks for all your response.

Am planning to plant cassava and have a work space or house where the cassava will be turned into garri or fufu. I don't know whether this idea is good?
