Honestly, Nigeria lack maintenance culture. Visit that place this time next year and you will be sad of the current state. Abuja national stadium was built almost same time with emirate stadium own by arsenal.

Every time I see the National Theatre on Media, I have flashbacks of the movie Hostages, starring JT Tom West and Saint Obi.

I did my nysc here 2019 that place was a dungeon. I'm happy with what they've done with it.

This is a structure that has lasted tme, because it was built with a mindset for all Nigerians and generations yet unborn.
Some government structure of today does not last for 3 years.

I even heard you need to wear a thick jacket in there because of the serious coldness of the AC inside the entire structure!

The National Theatre was returned to its original condition when it was built.

The A/Cs were chilling and the entire area very beautiful and serene at completion and for some years too.

When Lagos was observing the odd and even number days for vehicles in the late 70s and early 80s, Lagos state air conditioned buses packed there, as that was the area to get buses into Lagos island.

Sadly, as is customary with our leaderships, they completely failed with maintaining the place. It became the residence for criminals, rats, rodents and insects. The location was originally discovered by the Murtala/OBJ government and completed early enough by OBJ for Festac ‘77. Stories had it that the place originally belonged to the Ibru family, but was acquired after negotiation by the then Federal government for the purpose of Festac ‘77.

Many thanks to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who left in 1979, a very solid economy and great infrastructures as the then military head of state.

Remains the external environment. The eyesore of canals and stagnant water surrounding the edifice can be better developed to yield a more aesthetic view of the place.

We cant have this beautiful building in a compound that has a swamp....turning it to where one can kayak will make the environment look neat and create more activities in the environment....

I believe there is a plan for that. The master plan for the entire area is documented in the video.

That main bowl is amazing...breathtaking. It looks like where they watch opera in those Hollywood movies. The whole renovated National Theatre is beautiful. I didn't even know it had 10 floors.

ALSO CREDIT TO THE MILITARY GOVT OF THE 1970s THAT HAD THE VISION TO BUILD THIS EDIFICE BACK THEN.

I believe it was either Gen Gowon or Gen Murtala Ramat Muhammed of blessed memory.

Only God knows how much it would have cost us to build this thing today.

Give me small gist about the place. The only time I went inside the place was for a church member's wedding in 2001, and the hall was still nice at the time.

Lagos state needs to do more in beautifying it' environment, road side, build good road, cover the drainages especially along road side and express way.

Deity abi dirty December comes to mind, we need a beautiful and clean lagos

It was built during the military era alongside so many other iconic structures like the third mainland bridge. Don't forget to stress that. It makes you wonder what winning points democracy has brought to Nigeria. I am seriously searching and can't find any.

I guess that's why they now have enough halls in the theatre for events..at least if they're making money from events, then they can use that to maintain the place, hopefully.
