A woman posing as a medical doctor at Echoes of God’s Mercy & Grace Mission Specialist Hospital, located on Finbars Road in Umuahia, Abia State, has been exposed as a fraud after an investigation confirmed she had no valid medical qualifications, ABN TV reports.

Miriam Ugochi Emenike, who had been working as a gynecologist and was later promoted to Chief Medical Director (CMD), allegedly used forged credentials to secure employment at the hospital. Despite concerns raised by staff over her qualifications, the hospital’s CEO insisted on hiring her in 2023.

Her fraudulent activities came to light after multiple medical malpractice cases were reported under her care. In September 2023, Emenike allegedly administered incorrect medications that led to a miscarriage for one patient and the death of another. These incidents raised suspicions among medical professionals at the hospital, prompting them to demand proof of her qualifications.

When confronted, Emenike failed to present a valid medical license. However, instead of being dismissed, she was promoted to CMD, sparking outrage among the hospital’s medical staff. In protest, all doctors at the facility resigned en masse, warning that keeping an unqualified individual in a leadership role could put patients' lives at risk and expose licensed doctors to legal liability.

Following a petition by concerned medical professionals, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) investigated Emenike’s credentials. Their findings revealed that her name was absent from the official registry of licensed medical practitioners. Additionally, the folio number she used for employment belonged to another doctor, confirming that she had fraudulently assumed a medical identity.

As a result, Emenike has been charged with forgery, impersonation, and obtaining employment under false pretenses. She is currently facing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where medical professionals and other witnesses are expected to testify against her.

Yes,u can get bad people every where but the ones u get in ur regions is more than any where else in the country.

Last time the UK and Canada govt published unlicensed nurses from Nigeria whose papers were fake...80% of them were from one region. ( YORUBAS).

What many lack is the perfect opportunity to display what’s inside of us, so stop the name calling, because you can’t swear with your parents life that you’re 70% upright or haven’t being involved in any form of irregularity and corruption or deceit or stealing no matter how you justify it.

That’s why I respect a wealthy man that chooses to lead an honest life because he has seen it all but chooses to be upright and honest. But in the case of a poor man like many jobless people on Nairaland that easily criticises others and make themselves look like a saint, they’re the worst, they’re only humbled by poverty and filled with hates and envy because of lack. Give them opportunity you will see the colour of their skin.
