Gladys Knight and the Pips. Mama Gladys, my favourite singer ever.

Known for "Midnight train to Georgia" but their back catalogue was immense, in fact "Midnight train to Georgia" wasn't even in my top three songs of theirs. Nowhere near.

I remember buying a CD compilation and having to play some tracks repeatedly that I heard for the first time.

1) Sorry (doesn't always make it right)
2) You're the best thing ths ever happened to me
3) The way we were

And these are off the top of my head, I think there's a different number 3 if I go through and check.
