Plotting to overthrow because he refused to dance to the tunes of the north. Even the judge in the case admitted it was just a political charade. The fascist Tafawa Balewa deserve what he got. |

While the real plotters were busy holding nocturnal meetings and sharpening their daggers. Evil has a way of coming back to bite you in the arse. |

You're the dull obe if you cannot get my drift. If he was indicted for coup plotting, it goes to show that he has the propensity to plan another one. The 1966 January coup was supposed to free him and make him the president. All the people that were killed were actually Awolowo's enemies Xisnin:

ValarDoharis:No, he wasn't indicted for coup plotting. He was indicted for wanting to "overthrow the government" by the stupid Balewa administration who got angry because Awolowo resisted his attempt to politically take over the western region. Anybody with functioning brain knows that the trial was a political hit by the jittery NPC. The judge even declared that "My hands are tied." before passing the judgment. That is the first coup trial in the history of the world where 100% of the accused are civilians that have zero ties with the military. And what evidence was used? Alleged article writings published in newspapers! Yes, the weapon for the coup was the public writings of the accused, not guns , not bombs but writings. It is soldiers that plots coups and not civilians with zero official powers. I don't expect you to understand due to your severe intellectual deficiency. |

Awolowo was framed That was why Ojukwu lied that he released Awolowo Gowon released Awolowo knowing fully well that Awolowo had been framed by the Azikiwe / Balewa FG Gen Ironsi and later Ojukwu also framed Col. Victor Banjo as well and Ojukwu later killed him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAH9kKmRGwM?si=0o0f06bl0AZ-6ZEV

Hehehe! This matter would not go away easily. The alleged coup by Awolowo was just a phantom by the new found Balewa-Akintola alliance to disposed him off. |

Xisnin:He was tried in a competent court under Coker Commission and found guilty of "treasonable felony ". Go figure. He wasn't framed, he went through legal procedures and found guilty. It wasn't a military regime, it was a civilian regime. What he couldn't do as a civilian he achieved through Fajuiyi brainwashing Nzeogwu and co to take out his enemies after they attended a course in Abeokuta under Fajuiyi! That Awolowo was the masterminder of that coup is as clear as daylight. That it took this long to be established is that travesty. |

In 1962, during a political crisis in the Western region of Nigeria, Coker was appointed by Moses Majekodunmi, the sole administrator of the region to chair a commission of enquiry into the affairs of some statutory corporations. The commission was viewed by some as an instrument to discredit the Awolowo faction of the Action Group.[7] However, in the final report of the enquiry, it found Awolowo culpable in the diversion of regional funds to finance the Action Group but exonerated Akintola, which made it easier for the latter to be reinstated as Premier of the region.[8][9] This became known as the Coker Commission Of Inquiry. The Coker Commission Of Inquiry issued a four-volume report detailing administrative excesses in the region. The report reported the misuse of public funds for private and political gain. This was not the case in the other two regions of North and East. The Governor of Northern Region Kashim Ibrahim of blessed memory died a Poor man where as M.I Okpara(of Great fame), Premier of Eastern Region despite all the industries he built could not build a single house for himself, but across the Niger, the Premier of Western Region then, Awo was already a Millionaire in Foreign currency. Money meant for Government Project were siphoned into private businesses such as Media(Tribune Newspapers), Real Estate , Hotel Management amongst many business concerns owns by the Yoruba Leader . The Commissioners stated further that Awolowo’s scheme “was to build around him with money an empire financially formidable both in Nigeria and abroad-an empire in which dominance would be maintained by him by the power of the money which he had given out.” Little wonder, why when Helicopter was a Luxury, he was the only Presidential Candidate that have the luxury to afford 2 helicopters for his campaign which failed woefully. |

pazienza:Good a thing the commission that handled Awolowo case that found him guilty of treasonable felony and misappropriation of western region funds, was not headed by an Igbo man. Imagine if the presiding judge was an Igbo man? |
| Re: Awolowo Was Found Guilty Of Plotting To Overthrow Tafawa Balewa - Nytimes by pazienza(m): 4:45pm On Feb 25, 2025 |
pazienza:No be today Yorubas started producing bad administrators. Awolowo was balling hard with western region money, acquiring lands and property everywhere, cruising on private jets. In contrast, Michael Okpara was so obsessed with making Eastern region the fastest growing economy in the world. Okpara has no single landed property in Enugu by the time he was removed from office by the soldiers! Ndiigbo potential as frugal managers of economy and business was fully made manifest in Eastern region. This is our biggest loss after the civil war, because we became under Lagos, Abuja and Sokoto and now have the dredge of our society foisted on us as governors and political office holders by our enemies who picked the very worse of us who represent their flamboyant and public funds embezzlement lifestyle. |

Awolowo was framed up for attempted coup plot he knew nothing about while the real coup plotters were in Tafawa Balewa's Government, scheming and strategizing on how to carry out their plan right under Balewa's nose.. The so called ally was enjoying cruise ship ride and holiday abroad while Balewa and all those they ran Government together back home in Nigeria (specifically the non-Igbos) got murdered in cold blood.. yet they want us to believe the blame should go to Awolowo that was in prison and not Zik that was hiding abroad to save his own head. |

ElSudani:In a broader perspective, it means the ibos were very ambitious... But the more concerning issue about this interview should be on how he structure the civil service to be a "Northerner First" institution. With this divisionary take, would you consider cohabiting with bigots like Bello a worthy one? |

YoruBads:Let me school you a bit.. the North wanted Awolowo on their side and offered him several "figure-head" positions like what Nnamdi Azikiwe got as a ceremonial powerless President but Awolowo declined.. He gave his reasons that he was in service to be the voice of the people, not to enrich himself like others were busy doing. Awolowo was the complete opposite of Nnamdi Azikiwe who was so particular about wealth and material gains. A British man described Awolowo as "upright" unlike Zik who was being blackmailed by the British Government to do their bidding or go to jail because of the bad debts and other criminal records they had on Zik. It is really laughable for your people to come out and claim Awolowo planned coup when he was very comfortable as opposition leader in the 60s". It's only someone who is not comfortable that will plan to overthrow a Government and all pointers lead to Nnamdi Azikiwe. |

pazienza:Summary: Chief Awolowo was a thief Chief Awolowo was a megalomaniac like his tribesman in Abuja. Most Yoruba politicians at that time were kleptocratic and corrupt (thieves). Northerners and Easterners were the opposite of their Western counterparts. The above lends itself to the assertion that Chief Awolowo was probably guilty of the high treason charges brought against him by the government. |
