Putin thought he could run Ukraine over in a month but three years down the line, Putin couldn’t defeat Ukraine in spite of all the fighters sent in from North Korea; and technical support from Iran and to some extent, China. Ukraine fought Russia to a stalemate. Personally I’m glad the senseless war is gradually coming to an end all thanks to Trump who has repeatedly said the meaningless killings of troops from both Russia and Ukraine had to stop.

1. US is the major contributor they contribute 16% not 80% double check your figure. NATO pays US more than anyone else, NATO is US way of asserting her power. If NATO means nothing to them they should scrap it and withdraw their troops and stop paying a dime to NATO.

2. I am not sure about EU being more dependent on the US than the US is on the EU. Maybe in terms of security, but in terms of bilateral trade and international relationship, EU is the most reliable partner the US can ever get in todays world. Even China can't take that spots. So the EU is as valuable to the US, as the US is to the EU. Trump is only blowing hot air. Have you ever imagined what would happen, if the EU refused to go along with the US and decided to sit on the fence or even tend to lean more to China than they lean to the USA?

3. The Ukraine war, which one of the ideas was to push the NATO border further, was a big plus for US security if they had succeeded, hence, it pays US more and they should pay more. Moreover, after second world war, Germany was disarmed on the agreement that US will provide military support. The same situation Ukraine found themselves with Russia for giving up their nukes is what EU found themselves in for believing the USA. EU is slowly coming to terms with what is happening and they are upping their military expense (that is if the leftist don't get in the way of it).

4. US maybe the highest buyer of EU cars, US is still the largest exporter/importer of goods and services. EU and Britain are still amongst the 5 top importer/exporter of goods from/to the US . So like I pointed out earlier US is as important to EU as EU is to the US.
