I know Afrobeats started winning the youth over around the mid 2000s...cos when I used to throw parties in the late 90s/early 2000s, you dare not play any Nigerian music. The Remedies Shakomo, even though it was popular in naija when it dropped, it was still looked at as razz music by majority of the youth party goers.

It was around them D Banj time, and then P Square time that afrobeats became cool to all youths.

Personally I began taking the genre seriously after Tuface’ ‘African Queen’ and Bracket’s
