Help nairalanders hold their governors accountable by giving it a wider audience please. Most of them have been doing senseless projects that dont generate income or positively impact the ability of their states to earn. Airports, flyovers and funny infrastructures. |

Beyond Subsidy Removal, we should be concerned with what brought us to the point we were unable to sustain the subsidy. A man who suddenly is unable to drive his kids to school & asks them to trek, will soon reduce their meals from 3 square meals to 2, if he doesn't tackle the root cause of his inability to continue driving the kids to school. |

CodeTemplar:Since the people are not feeling it its better to return the subsidy back. Another thing is that even tho allocation to governors got trippled, the current exchange rate will make them not achieve much because prices of materials for projects also skyrocketed. For me I think the subsidy removal thing is ill advised, this are devillish world bank policies.Yaradua and obj all paid subsidies and still ran the country properly. Instead of removing subsidy while not place a tax on luxury goods or property,or while not tackle oil theft properly instead of taxing the poor. |

The states are recieving triple the amount they received before subsidy removal but don't forget that the value of the naira has been devalued by 100% |

Honestly states have received so much from the federal purse yet so many states can't point to what they used all the billion given to the do. |

No, it didn't triple. Allocating more naira doesn't increase allocation value - it reduced actually. You came in to destroy Nigeria. The day you got sworn in, you made very reckless statements which I believe was to please your international backers and destroy Nigeria. That statement destroyed the economy on day one. You said you removed subsidy, increased the fuel price by 3x thereby pushing the economy into inflation. Then turned around to start paying more subsidy than has ever been paid. What did you achieve with subsidy? Absolutely nothing. Only used it to destroy the economy and threw people into abject poverty. In the midst of all that, you announced floating of the dollars. The value of the dollars plummeted further adding more destruction from what subsidy announcement has caused. Then you turned around and started defending the naira with billions of dollars. What did you achieve with floating of the naira? Absolutely nothing. Only used it to destroy the economy and threw people into abject poverty. Then you increased electricity tarriff. Turned around and started paying more money for power subsidization. The question now is, did Tinubu do all these blunders deliberately or it's just sheer incompetence? In my opinion, it's mixture of both but more of deliberate. He had a mandate to push more people into poverty to please his colonial masters. He also want to make decisions that wil give him more opportunities to steal |

![]() Hmmm! Nigeria survived due to subsidy removal but in the process killed off vulnerable citizens. A complicated irony. |

I have no problem with subsidy removal. In fact i supported it. The main problem now is INFLATION. Tackle inflation and create an enabling environment to reduce the price of fuel and diesel. Fuel needs to come to N500 or less. |

Governors are receiving increased allocations with little or nothing to show for it,yet all fingers are always pointing at the President , it's time we hold our governors accountable or fg should return to subsidy payment. |

They said this our president is an accountant, I doubt if he knows his numbers. The exchange before subsidy removal tripled after floating of naira, what the government is earning did not triple because it comes in dollars not naira, whatever triple he is talking about is when converted to useless naira. The governors only have an allocation consumed by inflation. The federal government is still borrowing even when revenue has tripled according to Mr President. |

CodeTemplar:Very shallow assessment by a clueless and incompetent president! Nigerian masses are suffering today because of macroeconomic issues which have made life difficult and unbearable for them e.g. inflation, interest rate, devaluation and floating of naira, high cost of fuel etc. These things have a direct effect on the cost and standard living of the people, and are under the direct control of the FGN. State govts do not control or determine these parameters, therefore multiplying their allocations by even 10 times would not have any meaningful effect on the economy and life of the masses. It would only increase inflation, corruption, and maybe add to the salaries of a few State workers etc. But the generality of the population would suffer, and that is what is happening. Not every Nigerian works for FG or State govt The state govts lack the capacity to affect these Macroeconomic issues positively in a manner the way the FG can. A sensible govt would rather do everything and use some resources to ensure that these things are kept and managed within the range that the generally masses can cope with. |

Allocations to states have doubled, but what are the governors doing with it? Where is this surplus money coming from, it is not internally generated but rather borrowed externally. It is not coming from local taxes, but foreign loans. How sustainable is this longterm? |
