So, what happens when the very thing that gives life also brings destruction?

In this painting, the serene yet haunting landscape tells a story of quiet resilience. The water—once the tree’s source of nourishment—has now become its silent antagonist, rising against it, slowly drowning its roots. It once fed the tree, sustained its growth, and gave it life. Yet now, in excess, it suffocates, weakens, and threatens to erase it. This reflects a profound truth: abundance, when unchecked or abused, can turn against us.

Despite its silent agony, the tree stands strong, unyielding. Its branches, though bare, remain open, providing shelter to the birds—some resting on its limbs, others soaring towards it from the distance, drawn to its presence. Even in its suffering, the tree does not cease to give, protect, and inspire.

Now, how often do we see people consumed by their own blessings? Wealth, power, and comfort—things meant to elevate us—can become our downfall when taken without caution. Just like the tree, we sometimes forget that what nourishes us can also destroy us if we lose balance. Addiction, greed, toxic relationships—excess in any form can be self-destructive.

But what defines us is not just our suffering; it is how we choose to endure and give back despite our struggles. The tree, though drowning, still serves a purpose. Like a parent sacrificing for their children, or a dreamer pushing forward despite hardship, it continues to reach for the sky—a symbol of hope, resilience, and silent strength.

Even in adversity, the tree teaches us a profound lesson: we can still be a source of light to others, even when we are struggling in the shadows. In a world of fleeting abundance, true beauty lies in endurance, in the silent strength to give, to stand firm, and to reach for something greater.

Overall, the composition blends warm and cool tones, creating a delicate contrast between hope and struggle. The golden hues of the sunset dissolve into soft blues, reflecting both the tree’s endurance and the quiet encroachment of its suffering. The peaceful expanse of water mirrors the sky, creating a sense of harmony, yet beneath this tranquility lies an unsettling reality—the tree is trapped in a battle with the very element that once sustained it.

The mountains, sky, and tree together embody the wisdom of nature. They reflect the interconnectedness of all things, reminding viewers to slow down and appreciate the beauty oft he present moment.

Thank you for reading this far. I hope this teaches a very profitable lesson, in a world of greed self-centredness as ours.

Here we go!

I'm glad to share this new painting I just completed. This is the second of four paintings I had planned to work on last year, but had to postpone due to unforeseen circumstances.

Title: The Grip,
Medium: Acrylic on canvas

This piece depicts a typical African mother and son walking their way home under a stormy rainfall. The mother carries a load on her head, supporting it with her right hand while holding her little son – about 5 year old, with her left hand. They are both drenched in the rain but they don’t have any other option than to keep going because they are in a remote area. The propelling grip is tight, they will eventually get home, the rain shall pass.

It is actually a visual expression of my personal journey through hardship and hope — my many experiences with my ever caring mother. So many times we had to go through situations like this, and it is typical to the rural people in the Niger Delta of Nigeria where I am from.

The contrast of cool blues and warm earth tones represents the duality of struggle and comfort, fear and faith, through day and night. ‘The Grip’ is not just a painting—it’s a quiet testament to resilience, and to the hands that hold us steady when the path is unclear.

Here's a new painting I just completed, which is the third of the four works I have postponed from 2024.

The black paint is very reflective of the brush strokes. I haven't really been able to capture a good view as it is.

The painting shows a silhouette figure in profile view, serene and composed against a contrasting blue background with a radiant white light in form of a cross

Not what many artists create about these days, it illustrates a state of strength in one's loneliest moment, emphasises the presence of the divine, of the one who is always with you when nobody is, evening though you may not notice, as the cross is radiant and not very obvious. Even in our most isolated moments, we are not alone. The hidden-yet-glowing cross becomes a metaphor for God's quiet, unwavering presence—always there, even when unnoticed. That duality between loneliness and divine nearness is haunting and comforting all at once.

The painting reassures us that God is always with us, he never leaves, always caring never like worldly friends.

I started a new painting, and won't be revealing till it's done... Anticipate!
