Editorialtimes:What are they going out to study? Courses available in Kano or not? Wouldn't investing the resources into North West University and upgrading it to international standard or creating more jobs for the unemployed graduates on ground make more sense? You're shipping limited resources over to Europe when our own educational institutions are in a deplorable state. People will go to the ends of the earth to study only to come back and work the same jobs as us who went to public universities in Nigeria. Some of them are even unemployed. Where's the sense in this? |

Japa no easy like that Most times the beneficiaries of these schemes are made to sign bonds with the state governments to return and serve the state for a number of years. The state governments also ensure that their transcripts and degree certificates are not issued to the students but the state government. That's how some states go about it |

stuffs2002:🤣🤣🤣 The truth is bitter my brother. What might be good for the individual students that are being helped may not be good for the well-being of the state long-term. Plus the kain ojoro wey go dey that selection process no be for here. Sai yaran wane da wane. The people who really need the help the most won't get it. |

Are the scholarships by merit? ... by number? ...by connections? ... or amount to be pocketed by the sponsors? Of those that went ... how many have successfully completed their studies? ... how many have returned to keep us abreast with global standards? Someone goes abroad on scholarship ... he is now a medical doctor ... a brain surgeon ... an EV Technician ... returns home to practice and upgrade the locals in his field if expertise ... can he really do so when basic reliable electricity is not available? ... the equipment available for him to practice is obsolete? ... the support staff is clueless ? .... and his boss that calls the shots has yet to move into the 21 st century digital age? How can he function in such an environment? So what does he do? ... what will you do? The money would be better spent on basic infrastructure development or upgrades ...but ... that's not the aim of this pocket filling exercise |

sammirano:Take it easy... I can assure that there will be many Yorubas on that list from Kano and there is nothing wrong in that. The only problem of Nigeria are those bitter and hateful things from the 5 plot of land in the east. |

This is the best time to sponsor students abroad. First, Europe needs students desperately because their own children hate going to school, and they need to keep their Universities going. Second, we have too much population and we need to push some of them out. Third, we need diaspora remittances. One person per family can reduce or eliminate poverty of the immediate family. Forth, we need future leaders that can incorporate problem solving skills learnt from sane countries. We just need to make sure that these sponsorships follow due process. If I was a Governor, I would limit it to - 1st class or top 2-1s - Courses and majors relevant to the states I govern in - Agriculture, Finance, Mining and so on - Have jobs available for students traveling abroad for Masters - Have them sign contracts to return or pay back their sponsorship costs, so even if they don't come back, its a win for the Govt. If all the states are sending 200-1000, we can send close to 20,000-25,000 scholars annually Editorialtimes: |

Seems the Northern governments and ISLAMISTS from the North have started copying their Arab counterparts. They have begun sending ISLAMISTS to Europe to destroy western values like the Arabs are doing. When you hear a name like Danjuma Abdullahi suicide bombing Berlins in the next few years just know they don't represent Nigeria as a whole. |

Are they the best brains of the best ? Would they come back to the country to use their skills to help and develop Kano state and Nigeria at Large ? Or remain there after being sponsored by tax payers money and the state resources collectively owned by Kano citizens ? How does the government hope to recoup these expenses from them Or they are just Quota system scholarship/sponsorships as usual? |

Ironfaceman:Northern governors are known for doing this, it's not new in the north. It's done to encourage their indigens. When I was serving in Sokoto 13 years ago, Governor Wammako sent high number of medical students abroad in exchange program. Same thing in Kebbi State. Students in engineering, medical field and so on were being sent abroad to complete their degree overseas. They already have solid arrangement with some Unis abroad for exchange program. U will never hear such a thing in the South West. |

Alliswell248:With all the self-acclaimed best universities in the SW, how many of them have been ale to make top 20 here in Africa? They're not worth what we call them. Besides, every state is responsible for sending out certain number of their indigens for exchange program overseas, but South West is not living up to expectation in this regard, those northern governors are still committed to this course. |
