Because you don't take time to study the collection of scripts or what you call scriptures, you're being indoctrinated to a different interpretation of prophecy /prophet.


A prophet is a custodian of the truth; it doesn't matter if he marries plenty wives, smokes weed, or behave violently. There's just only one constant , which is "truth"
Prophecy is synonymous with truth and not some fabricated predictions or political permutations.
Prophets don't care if the truth would cost their lives.

Now this is how truth can be mistaken for fortune telling:
1. If you don't diversify the economy, Nigeria will suffer(this is truth )
2. If you continue arming thugs during elections, crime rate will increase(this is truth)

Examples of prophets are: Fela kuti, Bob Marley, Nnamdi kanu, Martin Luther king etc.

When the scriptures says "I'll put a lying spirit on the prophets" it is simply saying, the identity of a prophet (truth) will be removed
