The basic issue is, Trump is not doing Russia's bidding per se. Although he is a bit friendly towards Putane, he is not neccesarily in Russia's back pocket.

Keep in mind that trump was voted in by a large number of people who live in some of the deprived areas of the USA. Keep also in mind that the US Involving itself in the global system has not neccesarily been to its benefit. A lot of money gets spent and other countries appear to benefit. The US allies for years have been benefiting from the US defence umbrella, largely because many of then got burnt by WW1 AND WW2 and many of them don't want to go back to the days when they had to spend too much on their defence. (a cold reason why many facilites like schools and hospitals look good and work in places like Spain, Germany, Japan and UK is because US defence curtian means spending that would have gone on defence goes instead on health and education.).

Trump wants to stop spending too much on the world, and wants to start spending more and more on the US itself. Not crazy or facist.

The real issue is that many European countries do not want to go on a war footing. Russia is ready to go and is on a war footing largely because Russian leaders have learned, over centuries, that not paying attention to defence is a nice way of saying 'We're open for pillaging.' (And yes, signing a peace treaty does not work, as Stalin found out the hard way, altho he was not exactly trusting too..but still,). At the same time, Russia makes the mistake of thinking that a tough guy posture is a nice way to win friends and keep the peace...which is why it is invading Ukraine. Ukraine meanwhile has spent centuries being either Russia's or Poland' s or even Austria's footstool. It views its only way to security as being backed by a strong friend. And in the abscence of the USA...it looks like the EU. But the EU does not want to go on a war footing precisely because it fears WW3.

The summary is, the US failed Ukraine, the EU is failing Ukraine, and Russia is failing and mistreating Ukraine.


The moral of the whole mess for Nigeria is simple. Don't trust Russia, US and the EU. As much as possible, focus on peaceful development of your country, fight corruption and develop a strong capitalist industrial nation with a strong welfare system. Trust no one. Not even china.

1. Nobody is funding NATO! The way NATO works is every country is expected to fund their country's defense so if there is need, they can contribute to the defense of NATO member in need. NATO has no budget on her own. It is a mutual defense pact. It means, you will support me when i need you and i will support you when you need me!
2. US get more from NATO than other members! NATO want members equipment to be operatable by other members. So, they prefer to buy similar equipment, which US is the major manufacturer. So US companies make lots of money from NATO members and US Govt collect taxes from that!
3. Even in the absence of NATO, Europe will continue to support Ukraine. They know what is at stake. They know they must stop Russia.
4. Russia is labelled a bad country because they continue to threaten their neighbours! Nobody is claiming the US is a saint. However, her neighbours don't fear her. Russia continues to attack and invade her neighbours, also continues to destabilize her neighbours using Russian speaking citizens of those countries. So, Russia deserves being labelled a bad neighbour!

Imagine the commitment that you must spend a certain percentage of your GDP on Defence and your GDP is as large as all of NATO members GDP combined .

America is the biggest beneficiary of both NATO and UN against what Trump would have you all to believe. Ellon Musk is one of the individuals that have benefited the most from the existence of NATO and UN. Let me explain

The existence of NATO only serves the interest of America because it ensures that they have access to enormous quantities of raw materials needed to run American economy and also the leverage to assert their military power. In the absence of NATO, America will be isolated and it's economy crippled.

Same as the UN. UN gives American the power to intimidate, bully and coarse any country of their choice. In the absence of both NATO and UN, America will hardly be able to find market for their products and raw materials for their industries.

In a free market economy, America cannot defeat China in export of any form. American diplomacy, all things being equal, cannot win Chinese and Russians.

If America exits NATO and UN, it will be a win for China, Russia and the world at large because they will lose the influence to force dollars on anyone. Russia will expand politically. China's trade will grow exponentially. American dominance, especially in trade and commerce, will come to an abrupt end.

In the absence of NATO, America won't be able to threaten, even countries like Nigeria, because you need a military base in close proximity to attack a country. NATO currently gives America that leverage.

In conclusion, the conversation about exiting NATO and UN is childish because, to start with, both organizations serve only the interest of America.
