Okay. Looks like the tax net has been expanded. Careful attention must be made such that the tax is not increased but harmonized so individuals and organizations are not over-taxed.

Not against taxation, as every government must tax her citizens and every citizen owe government the responsibility to pay taxes.

However this government in Nigeria is taxing the poor of the poor disproportionately.

Increasing VATs and the outrageous bank charges over very small transactions plus monthly bank deductions for no service rendered will further increase poverty and not reduce it.

My wife visited Nigeria a few weeks ago and she returned to confirm to me the intensity of poverty enveloping the country.

It was President Tinubu who said ‘let the poor breath’ but in this government of his, the poor are seriously dying out of suffocation from his tax regime and policies.

Sadly, it's the poor people that are paying these taxes. The rich people don't pay taxes. A rich man May deposit 1m or more to his account within the week and pays N50 as electronic transfer levy. A poor may be deposit ing 10k everyday and he will be paying N50 daily as electronic transfer levy. In a week he will make more than 10 deposit and N50 will be collected from such deposit. So, who is paying the taxes? POS agents are now paying N50 on every withdrawal or transfer of 10k and above to their terminals. Most of them have capital of 60k. These are the categories of people paying these taxes.

Taxes never grow the economy, rather they make poor more poorer. What grows the economy is productivity.

You don't pay taxes in Nigeria.

VAT alone in the UK is 20% - and it's charged on almost everything you buy. Then you pay Council Tax, you pay Road Tax (if you own a vehicle), you pay TV Tax (yes your TV is taxed) and all these are beside your normal Income Tax which could range between 22% to 40% depending on your income.

And please don't give me the sermon of "ah, sheybi you guys see what they do with the money". Most of their infrastructures here are old and sometimes outdated.

it is sure that Nigeria is turning to a country where govt will make sure you can't lift your head about the water, where you won't have strength to protest their bad dealings and doings because you will be so scared of how tomorrow will be,living from day to day happenings,do you think, they really new the taxes, the answer is NO,They can just their country bank for loan and repay it back by printing money
Analytically,it's a deliberate act,ppl getting poorer cos the wages n salaries is not affect to meet up with pressure that the taxes bring
PEOPLE NEEDS TO START ASKING QUESTIONS,WHEERE ARE THE DOLLARS FOR CRUDE OIL PROCEEDS
NIGERIA ,A NATION THAT IS RICH BUT EXTREMELY POOR

So after taxing us what do we get in return it's just a simple question
The sad reality is that you will get next to nothing in return..... All the money is meant to make the three arms of government live fat on plenty resources which they are entitled to because they all believe they paid heavily to get to their position

Judges get free houses and increase in salary plus allowances...same for executives and law makers.....make no mistake....the masses are only part tax payment but never the true beneficiary

Very good. Can we now have 100% resource control by States so that FG can take the tax goldmine while the real rich States will become rich.

You seem not to get the point, do you? It's not about the wage people earn, it's about how many people are in the taxi net.

If you want to go the wage route (because I can imagine you're already thinking £ to N), do you also pay N2.5m monthly for accomodation in Nigeria, do you buy a small biscuit for N1,000 do you spend N800k on feeding monthly. Do you service car with N450k (just change oil and put filter ooo).

When I was in Nigeria, I was paying 139k monthly as PAYE but that was even far better compared to what we pay here.
Re: Tax Revenue As Nigeria’s New Crude Oil - Dare Adekanmbi by higgs: 9:35am On Mar 03, 2025
Revenue from oil has fallen drastically due to so called crude oil theft.Struggling citizens and businesses are being taxed to death by a government that cannot even secure lives and property.Citizens are being kidnapped from the roads and their houses and made to pay huge ransome before being released and/or killed. Government officials embezzle public funds, most of which are from taxes without any real consequences. No sane person can be happy paying taxes in such a country

You should know this, I didn't leave Nigeria as a hustler...I was super comfortable and I didn't pay my way to the UK. If I come back to Nigeria today, I'd live like a King.

And don't bother to open your arms to welcome me, it won't be needed.

Shameful. Taxing the population who are suffering should not be the way to raise money. How is the money being used to help hungry people?

Businesses are closing everywhere people are escaping the country but we should applaud because the govt is stealing from the people to enrich themselves?

In Abuja they are just breaking good roads to “redo” them in the name of projects in the meantime even in central area there are untarred roads.

Sharing FCT revenue with any one with a rivers registered company to buy favours but not doing anything real to help normal people

Most of that money goes to Scotland. Oil revenue is very small part of UK revenue. Tax is the bedrock of UK revenue.

What trailer? Crude is measured by flow pumps you don't make nor caliberate , it's what the flow pump tells you is a barrel you will accept , even your tiny Petro stations do it to you and you can't argue
