Imo state (Owerri) populace are mostly civil servants, students. The only company you that's situated there when i was there is just Rapido Food LTD in Owerri and Consolidatary PLC in Awo. There's almost zero presence of industry there and i think it's the reason for it being expensive and night life sells in Owerri and believe me Imo state is very expensive.

Rivers state (Porrthacourt), deserves to be in that list (nobody go tell you how expensive dat city dey if you spend one month there).

Enugu is quite expensive especially its metropolis but food stuffs are cheaper around the local government that shares boundary with Benue state and I don't think Ebonyi should be in the top ten in most expensive states in Nigeria.

Edo (Benin city) is very expensive but if you live in northern Edo (Auchi) things are quiet cheaper there.

What I don't understand about this list is, why is Delta state (Asaba) not there. Asaba is one of if not the most expensive city in Nigeria.

For me, I think Oyo state (Ibadan) is the cheapest in southern Nigeria.

Food, rent, transportation is my yard stick.
which Oyo is cheapest? Oyo is more expensive than Anambra, Enugu and Lagos. I've lived in this 4 states, so I'm speaking from experience.

Cost of living in Benin akure cost pass island in Lagos
Na only house rent Lagos use cost pass many states in Nigeria
I spent over 5 years in Lagos island
Just 1 week in Benin city.im already complaining
Yoruba land apart from ondo ekiti is cheap due to presence of many industries and farming
Infact the whole write up from the op is flawed

Benin City should be either first or second position

Owerri small London while Orlu and Okigwe remain nearly like they were in 1976.
You don't ask why because you people lack moral consciousness when you were forcing all government institutions that induce human and economic development to be located in Owerri. No consideration for other parts of Imo state. Those institutions located in Owerri are reasons why people of Imo State run to Owerri to settle. It's time to get campuses of thise institutions in Owerri be opened in other towns outside Owerri in Imo state. Is it only Owerri that owns Imo state?
Hahaha...... it's not our fault. Na God give us. Imo is Owerri and Owerri is Imo. Let insecurity stop and Owerri will get even better. People even none-Imolites love Owerri.

It is far less expensive to live in Kaduna than in Edo state.I shuttle between both & Edo state isn't even on the list. Your compilation is highly faulty & inaccurate.

It's the greed and fault of Owerri people, not God, that made Owerri the only place that sees modern development and urban expansion in Imo state. The greed and faulty concentration of 100% of government institutions of Imo state in Owerri, but no consideration for what to locate in the other zones of Imo state to induce modern develooment in them.

It's the same stupidity which makes your lot say the FALSEHOOD "Imo state is Owerri and Owerri is Imo state."
Go to Anambra and say Anambra State is Awka, and Awka is Anambra State, you will be pushed into the gutters.

You say awkward Orlu or Okigwe? Orlu and Okigwe, especially Orlu zone, have been clamouring for a new state they deserve, but your Owerri people keep on saying, if Orlu zone is taken out of Imo state, the rest of Imo state will collapse. There is no state in Nigeria where all federal government tertiary education institutions and housing estates are located in the state capital zone, except Imo state. Imo state is rather the awkward state as Owerri literally seizes every government in in Owerri? What kind of witchcraft do you people do against Orlu and Okigwe in Imo state?

Pray for those of us in Imo.
Unemployment, we're first 5.
IGR, we're the least.
Ease of doing business, we're among the 5 worst
Cost of living is killing the living in Imo.

OMG!

grin Nice attempt at manipulating figures again to confuse yourselves and sell a narrative that 4 south east states are expensive to live in. But in reality, you guys are wrong in the above statistics.

In the end, we will all wander into the forest of comparing who is worse hit while hunger continues to reset the brains of all Nigerians wherever they are. Some may be feeling happier to think that their state is less expensive, but the reality on the ground is that hunger is still tormenting every Nigerian, no matter their location.

The federal government has failed as we all knew they will fail.
Okay.SOUTHEAST STATES ARE CHEAP!....ARE YOU OKAY NOW?

Mbakwe administration and the World Bank spent a fortune and opened campuses of Alvan Ikoku College of Education in Umuahia and Orlu. Big Hostels and classrooms were built in Umuahia and Orlu then. After Mbakwe administration, Owerri politiciabs tricked a military governor to close down the campuses of Alvan Ikoku College of Education in Umuahia and Orlu. They said Alvan campuses can't be viable in Umuahia and Orlu.

The Umuahia and Orlu campuses were closed. Students and staff were forced back to pay rents in Owerri.
Go and check Abia State college of education in Arochukwu even as at today and one federal Polytechnic like that located in Akwa Ibom. How many colleges are viable on their own? Anybody old enough would know that the college's were like fourth choice and both parents and students would rather take jamb 10times than choose to attend them. Campuses for university sef are struggling so I don't see how campuses would have been viable for a college back in those days. Everything is not about paying rent in Owerri because every other institution by the state were located other places.
What they said might not be far from the truth. Try to see everything with clear eyes not about trying to hating on Owerri. Owerri and Owerri people are suffering from the lazy type of governance in Imo.
Mind you that Owerri people are not the ones ruling in fact they're being marginalised from becoming governor yet the people in charge will just pack money into their pockets, patch control roundabout and claim they have rehabilitated PH road or they'll repaint or replace the concrete blocks along bank road and claim they have changed the face of Imo. Imo governors are only better than former Abia governors.

To collect rent and increase the value of landed property in Owerri area are the only reasons why people of Owerri zone struggle to have every govt institution and establishment for Imo state to be located in Owerri zone. They don't care a hoot about other zones they share Imo state with. Primitive greed.
Go give your examples of Arochukwu and Akwa Ibom to the birds of the air.

The problem with Orlu becoming a state is with their counterparts in Ihiala, Nnewi etc and whether Ohaji Egbema saying they're not related to them. It has nothing to do with Owerri people. NOBODY IN OWERRI IS TRYING TO STOP ORLU ZONE FROM JOINING THEIR COUNTERPARTS TO FORM STATE It is the federal government that creates states incase you didn't know. Abia is bigger than Imo state even though it was carved from Imo. Still Imo didn't collapse and Abia didn't become better than Imo despite having Aba business hub. This amount of hate for Owerri people is too bad. Have you being to Rivers State and seen how many institutions, estates and markets that are in Port Harcourt area alone?
This is one of the reasons Nigerians are dying in suffering. Focus on hating each other instead of attacking the incompetent rulers. How developed is Okigwe ever since IMSU(now ABSU) was located there? How developed was Umuagwo Ohaji ever since College of agric (a.k.a Imopoly now UAES) was located there? How developed was Offorolla ever since federal college was located there? Even Nekede and Ihiagwa axis just witnessing a boom in development during these later year 2000s despite hosting FUTO and FEDPOLY since the 70s.
Owerri is not even developed enough as capital should be. Imo and Abia are just cursed with backwards rulers.

Just like I thought. You know absolutely nothing about what you're talking about. Owerri people have not ruled Imo state up to 2yrs since creation of the state and the ordinary people do not have power over the location of institutions neither are all the institutions located in Owerri. How many of those properties are owned by Owerri people? Why are you distancing this conversation from the PH, Arochukwu and Akwa Ibom examples given? Why didn't Arochukwu, Offorolla, Umuagwo, Okigwe and the Akwa Ibom community develop despite hosting institutions you're crying about? Are you implying You're just bird brain fuelled with jealousy and blind hatred for Owerri People?

There's a port in rivers state called "PORT Harcourt".

There are also:
Calabar port
Onne port
Warri port.

Food is meant to be very cheap in the SE. They also have very good soil for agriculture.
I meant busiest and most functional port. I think we can both agree to that
