Yeah, that's the biggest issue here, but an external charger would make it significantly more expensive I suppose.

Ideally we should be able to find a way to make the internal charging system work with lifepo4 even if it means not getting the battery to float.

I stopped buying overpriced fixed voltage chargers tey tey.
Buck/Boost converters are cheaper and way more versatile. The 1200w below will realistically charge 24v @25A, 48v @15A e.t.c.
It has pin-out for fan, or you buy the 1500w/1800w models that have fan bundled.
Connection is not hard.

Valto does not force anyone to buy from him, if you are not satisfied with his price, there are loads of other vendors to buy from. If you really care about diy people, why don't you bring in the cells yourself and build to sell it at knockdown prices. This trying to force him to sell at prices of manufactures who buy cells in thousands by batches is childish and inconsiderate. The only issue I will have with him is if his cells are not up to grade and he ignores customer's complaints which I believe is non existent up till date. Live and let live

Back to your question, if a branded company in China can build 2.3kwh for 375k automatically I can build 4kwh for just 300k since the type of cell used doesn't matter. My joy and confidence is that you won't be bold enough to open it and complain. .

It is possible to make 2 5kwh for circa 300k though.
100ah cells of many grade A cells are around 20USD
There is even a brand ANC that sells brand new 100ah for 17 USD (though this price was without m6 stud)
JK Smart BMS 4-8s 200A with 1A is around 33USD too.
Do the rough calculation and you will see that you can make a good 2.5kwh pack for 300k

For 24v 280ah, there is an alibaba seller selling for 40USD and it's a detachable box (this saves you more money on shipping)
He sells the 48v for around 60USD

Your other option is to try local fabricators but they mostly struggle with finishing (talking from experience).
