Your definition of time is relative. Do you wake up at 1:30am to eat? They are using the weather, which is dawn to dusk, you are using the clock. Look at the picture below. Even my picture is not entirely correct because around the world, 6 to 6 is not standard. If you go to Sweden now, their dusk is 6:04pm, in Finland it is 6:37 pm, in Fiji it is 6:51pm, in Alaska it is 7:17pm, in Iceland it is 7:44pm, in Chile it is 8:39pm, in Taiwan it is 6:21pm.

Do you know the history of the clock and why we started using 24 hours? Didn't you see Chinese celebrate new year last month in February? Don't you know your forefathers also used the weather to tel the time and to practise tradition? It's always good to open your mind and learn. It's called perspectives
According to your meme, they have eaten in the morning before beginning the fast.

Simple.

For more than that.
What I know is, you have broken your fast before beginning it once you eat early in the morning... That's breakfast you just had.

Good, so we have arrived at the same conclusion. You call it breakfast, they call it fasting. You see that strong conviction you have that it is breakfast and not fasting? It's how they have conviction in what they are doing too. They are fasting the way their religion told them, you don't think it makes sense. When I read the lent post today, I saw some people who don't believe in fasting. I am sure some of them don't know Pancake Day and they will abuse them for feasting before Lent. To each his own.

1. Christianity (Lent)

During Lent, many Christians fast for 40 days leading up to Easter. The nature of the fast can vary, but typically, it involves giving up certain foods or indulgences (like meat, dairy, or sweets). Some also engage in partial fasting, where they may eat only one meal a day or refrain from eating between certain hours.

2. Judaism (Yom Kippur and other fasts)

Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, involves a 25-hour fast, from sunset to sunset, where Jews abstain from food, drink, and other physical pleasures, including bathing and wearing leather shoes.

Other Jewish fasts include Tisha B'Av, a day of mourning the destruction of the First and Second Temples, and The Fast of Esther (before Purim), which is a shorter fast from dawn to nightfall.

3. Hinduism (Ekadashi)

Ekadashi is a fasting day that occurs twice a month for Hindus, on the 11th day of the lunar cycle. The fasting can vary in strictness, ranging from eating only fruits and vegetables to complete abstention from food and drink. It is meant to promote spiritual growth and discipline.

Another fasting practice is Navaratri, where many Hindus abstain from certain foods (like grains or non-vegetarian foods) for nine days to honor the goddess Durga.

4. Buddhism (Fasting and Monastic Practices)

In some Buddhist traditions, monks and nuns follow a form of fasting where they do not eat after noon until the following sunrise. This practice is part of their monastic discipline. The focus is on self-control, meditation, and detachment from worldly desires.

Some Buddhists also engage in intermittent fasting as part of their spiritual practices.

5. Medical Fasting (Intermittent Fasting)

Intermittent fasting (IF) has become popular as a health practice in recent years. It involves cycles of eating and fasting, where people may choose to fast for 16 hours and eat within an 8-hour window (16:8 method), or alternate days of fasting and eating. This is used for various health benefits, including weight loss, improved metabolism, and cellular repair.

Other medical fasts include water fasting (where only water is consumed) or juice fasting (where only fruit or vegetable juices are consumed), usually for detoxification or health reasons under medical supervision.

6. Islam (Ramadan)

As mentioned earlier, Ramadan fasting requires abstaining from all food and drink (including water) from dawn to sunset, not just skipping lunch. This is seen as a form of spiritual cleansing, increased devotion, and empathy for those who suffer from hunger.

7. Paganism (Seasonal Fasts and Rituals)

In some Pagan traditions, fasting is part of certain rituals or festivals, such as during the winter solstice or equinoxes. These fasts can vary from complete abstinence from food or drink to refraining from specific foods as part of a spiritual renewal.

Conclusion:

Fasting across different religions and medical practices can take many forms, ranging from complete abstinence from all food and drink to selective dietary restrictions or time-restricted eating. Each tradition or practice has its own purpose, whether it's for spiritual growth, self-discipline, or health benefits. The idea that Muslims only skip lunch overlooks the full extent of their fasting, which is more about holistic abstention and spiritual reflection.

'break' 'fast'
They've eaten, broken their fast before starting it.

Lent, I don't go with Lent either.
If I'm going to fast, it will not be publicized.
And even this one that they all are crying over?
No… that's not fasting.

According to the words of JESUS CHRIST, this is what He taught about fasting:
Matthew 6 (KJV)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¹⁶ Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
¹⁷ But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
¹⁸ That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

Now, if JESUS CHRIST was regarded as a Holy One, why do they not fast like this?
