Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Ogunboye Aremu Obasanjo GCFR (born 5 March 1937) is a Nigerian general and statesman who served as Nigeria's head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as its president from 1999 to 2007. Ideologically a Nigerian nationalist, he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 1998 to 2015, and since 2018.

Happy birthday to one of the men who put us in the state we’re in. Listen to any interview he’s had over decades. He never accepts blame for anything. His book reflects the same. I would have hope for Nigeria if the foolish youths didn’t look up to these men’s ways and pick to replicate them when in power. The many lives he cut short over his military and leadership career, meanwhile he’s lived to the ripe age of eighty-something. SMH.
