Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Verse:--"You (true Muslims) are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind." means, the best of peoples for the people, as you bring them with chains on their necks till they embrace Islam.

You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah . If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient.

Is this not clear enough for comprehension?

If you insist on reading hadith to understand this you should appropriately understand its context.

The mention of bringing people in chains until they enter Islam does not imply forced conversion; it refers to war captives at the time who, after being exposed to Islam, would choose to embrace it willingly. Historically, many prisoners of war, after engaging with Muslims, have sincerely accepted Islam.

Is it also a lie that some prisoners of war in those times also became Muslim. Not all of them did and they were not compelled to.

That there is the ethnic religious bias of people doesn't mean that is a clear message of Islam. Sadly people perceive things wrongly in classifying disputes as religion based.

That you lived in northern Nigeria and had this experience doesn't mean there aren't Christians who had good and supporting relations with Muslims there too.
