obidark:I believe so. The building still appears to be under construction from the pic. No roof yet. |

Looks like a distress building already. Housing in lagos state is so terrible that people are willing to live in that kind of death trap till they meet their fate. |

UDOKABESTLUV:Go and check the site , it maybe operated by quacks . all of them nuisance are on til too talking about what they have knowledge about. Everything is content nowadays. They look for ways to bring down the professionals on site and take over. Even some home owners cannot be absorbed of this. One baba that using residual knowledge of bungalow to build 3 floors building. Some are Ben caretaker parading themselves as engineers and architects. Not until some are sent to jail. All these trash won't stop . No professional wants his name to appear in collapsed buildings journals. |

Arostar2023:Why does it take ? Its better to be demolished than to set a death trap for innocent people. If you don't want your building demolished, you will employ professionals and not quacks . people have money to buy materials but they don't have money to get qualified people to man the sites. |

Arostar2023:This is one of those persons I’m referring to in my comment above. We have a lot of them in the country. They dominate the Nigerian population. They are totally clueless and lack consciousness of a mind of a true human, and they go about ignorantly showcasing their stupidity with pride. See him comparing the investment over a material product with human life, and even indirectly saying the waste of material product like building supersedes that of human life. You see what I’m saying.? If this type of animal by mistake becomes a leader, you can imagine the kind of backward policies he would be doling out to his subjects. How can a sane human justify demolishing a building investigated by relevant government authorities to be dangerous for habitation and could potentially collapse and take away lives of the people? Just how - what reasoning could anyone put up to make that make sense ? But only in Nigeria we come across such reasonings; it’s so so sad. |

tollyboy5:Ogbeni sharrap there Sharrap If you will demolish a house for lack of structural integrity, make the report clear. Let everyone know this building is a danger. Not just passing a building and marking it to be demolished |
| Re: 14 Rescued, Others Trapped In Lagos Building Collapse by uuzba(m): 6:49am On Mar 06, 2025 |
Well, if you don't pay the Structural Engineer to suoervise, he won't come to site and correct what the builder is doing. You will think you're saving money. The builder too will think he's saving money But the building would be built wrong and collapse. |

Someone somewhere has collected a huge sum of money for inspection and certified it good, then this happens. Funny enough he or she will not be sack after this incident as long as he or she is loyal to the oga at the top. A quick recovery to the wounded. |

Zionmdde:Because without the required approvals, it is impossible to just begin building construction in all those countries. A representative of the county or local government will inspect the building's construction from beginning to end to make sure it meets all local or county government standards. Every material that will be utilized will be inspected, and the construction process will be inspected step-by-step to avoid story of this nature. |

Arostar2023:Apologies for the insult. My emotion got the best of me. I’m always in pain when I see what a country that’s supposed to be wallowing in plenty reduced to nothing where her citizens feed off crumbs from the table of corrupt leaders. I believe there’s no two way about it. If we want a great nation. We need to stop making excuses for corrupt practices. Our laws should be firm and strict, particularly policies tied to human life. Construction companies should be sanctioned heavily for putting up poor quality works out there. There should be a strong consumer protection legal implementation with basic punishment for offending these laws to nothing less than life imprisonment on a guilty charge. And such property should be demolished without any consideration or whatsoever. Until the country laws in sensitive areas are made this strict, we would continue to experience the loss of life of our innocent citizens. And citizens too have their obligations or ditties to play. We should stop putting up excuses for bad leadership or traces of corrupt practices. These rulers read our blog posts and can tell our position on some of these matters. |

Arostar2023:Bro, there is a need for a take harsh action against the actors on issues like this in the industry. I am a construction person. Wheat we see on site daily will weaken your mind and when we call out these things , they will tell you to shut up. People think they can put their hands in everything including surgery, construction and all manners of professions without being duly certified by a professional body. Its appalling to say the least ehn quacks or artisans call themselves professionals and go ahead to execute jobs that ordinarily needs experts due considerations. They end up killing people and no one looks in that direction. Go online tiktok and see the nonsense going on there by our people. |

drehdinho:My responses to your comments were not so cordial too. I apologize for that too, friend. You have also raised good points that I agree with, too. I pray to see the time that the citizens of our great country will arise and take their destiny in their hand. Change is possible. |

lagosrd:I agree with you. We need reforms in so many areas. And guess what, it's in man to flaunt rules and cut corners in order to maximize profits. It's only laws that keep man in check, be it whites, blacks and Asians. In places like Canada, you can't be a barber without been certified. Even to be an ordinary security guard, you will write a certification exam not to talk of been a plumber or electrician. Our government has a role to play in this... that's why governments exist. Unless you are one of those that believe that Nigeria is a zoo. |

tollyboy5:A cause and a report is not the same thing. This building didn't meet our standard is a cause Explaining on which grounds the building didn't meet the standard will consist of a report. I didn't mention Lagos though, My comment is about the country. I don't know why everything must be all about Lagos, yoruba igbos bla bla bla |

Arostar2023:Lwy me give you a gist, I got a job on q site in the same lekki to make a comprehensive redesign of building exactly 2 floor by a senior engineer . I got there inky to discover it was a caretaker that was erecting the structure, while taking me to the site everyone keep calling him engineer this and he keeps answering them. The first red flag I saw was that the building was suspiciously u der distress without occupying it . I made my research around it and gave my report and recommended an NDT test before anything starts on site. I virtually saw reinforcement bar being discontinued on the ground floor .all I made the report to the senior engineer . The test was conducted and the result was awfully woeful only 3 columns passed out of 30 being examined averagely . the caretaker of a guy keeps calling me and I told him the building can't be worked upon expect demolish it but he keeps telling me that that's how they do it here and it has been standing. I told them unless they do what I recommended I won't work on the project and left. I was surprised to hear that the owner said she will sell the same structure to someone else..... 😂😂😂 THINGS ARE HAPPENING. |

Is this how Nigeria is going to be great? We keep on promoting bad behavior and, also pray for the country to be great; what a hypocrisy! |
