That's true, but with the kind of politicians we have who usually get into power through election rigging it will be dangerous to leave the control of state policing in their hands.
If it's possible the masses have greater say or control of the police then it's ok.
Look at how some governors are fighting their opponent and previous governors then one begin to wonder the length they will go to achieve their aims?
It's untill we start having free and fair elections then the issue of state policing can be discussed.

You are spot on!!! GEJ is the reason why this escalated!!! He didn't deal with it decisively when it started!!! If he had dealt with it squarely when it started, many people who later joined wouldn't have dared to join. Just like the Ghanian government, dealt with them and threw everything they had to make sure they stamped it out in GH. Other countries like Togo, Benin and even Cameroon didn't allow them. But our successive leaders including BAT lack the political will to stamp it out.

U don't understand the political terrain of Nigeria, if any leaders tries to use force on them, thesame people they kidnapped now will be shouting about how federal government is targeting our youth, the same youth will start protest against police and government, the same Eastern's will use it for political campaigns against who ever is in power.
Take example of fake drugs and NAFDAC, when NAFDAC was quiet people complained but when NAFDAC started working same people started claiming victim, even Peter Obi claimed certain people were targeted etc. Nigeria is not easy to govern, too many interest, division plus our youth are easily manipulated due to past and consistent under performance of government.

Nigerian governors are not responsible, they only care about their bank accounts and their children are not in Nigeria...they don't care about the lives of those they swore to serve and protect.

I get your point on employment, but even in advanced countries like America, Japan, China, there are still those demons who will venture into evil, strong deterrence is necessary.

Now we will see realm action being taken .... because the focus of the kidnappers has shifted from ordinary people ...to the big boys ...quality over quantity. Not saying it is right ...just saying now security will be addressed.
