[quote author=Malawian post=134461362]Lets talk about how much she earns even as a cleaner. [/quote
]
In what currency?

UK pounds?
Ghana Cedis or Nigeria naira?

But where does she lives? Where she lives is where 90% of her money will go.

I see a lot of comments borne out ignorance.

No country is perfect or safer. Not even UK or US.

The same Ghana/ Nigeria that many are rushing out of, many are building their mansions with legitimate earnings without government connections.

The problem with many Africans are mindset, the rise of social media has been positive and negative.

Many are earning foreign exchange working remotely.

If you are not fully in control of your mind and you believe in all you see on social media about traveling abroad without concrete plan, selling all you have to relocate, then welcome to slavery 2.0. Desperation doesn't guarantee anything. Many you think are doing well are in deplorable condition, many are in prison or dead.

If you have been abroad, you will know things are not rossi anymore even for their own citizens.

Going abroad is not a bad idea, especially if you have it figured out.

I want to be as gentle as I can to reply you because I dey vex.

1m is not big salary in Nigeria again sir. I’ve discovered most people on this blog are mostly children still with their parents and don’t understand how bad things are today. To rise to manager in bank most managers are at least 35 years old with 2 kids. In Nigeria of today here is the average breakdown of a basic family with two kids.

Rent 2.5m (average 2 bedroom in non fancy area in Lagos or Abuja)
School fees (200k/child/term) this is on the decent side
Transport/electricity/generator (at least 200k)
Feeding (200k)
By the end of the month you will discover you need more to survive.

What is the Marginal Propensity to Save (MPS) for a family earning 1m a month today? Or at 35 you don’t think they should be saving and investing? Or is it till they eat soup without meat just to save that you guys will admit they are prudent? Is that how people live around the world?

Nigerians have become poorer before our eyes.
My dearie, #200,000 cannot feed a family of 4 for a month. Not possible.
Except they skip meals, eat yeye foods or unbalanced diet

No. Cleaning job can not give you a good life abroad.
As if she is not gonna pay bills, eat and live like others in the UK.

I have family members there. My uncle still dey send them money.

Don't let them deceive you with the FX bullishness...to save money is harder and they have to do multiple jobs on the same day.

A banker is far better. But what level of banker ? Cashier? That one no be banker. Assistance manager or manager above.

First, it's stupidity to sell all you have to travel to another man's country to start from level 1.

Save what? She will pay rent, heating bills, council tax, car insurance ( if she has a car ni yen), tax to King Charlie and tax on consumption. At the end of the day she will be lucky if she has £200 balance. Someone will advice her to put her bills on a low interest rate credit card. Then she begins the journey of credit without liquidity.

Have you ever tried asking someone for £100 in cash?

They can buy stuff for you on their card but cash - they must love you to bits - because they don't have it.

The system is designed not to allow you retire until HMRS has taxed all benefits out of you.

There is a way out - if she has a job that will allow her work as an independent contractor. She can set up a company and pay company tax after loading expenses to maximum account. Shebi it is profit they want to tax?

Apart from this it's a life of good light, good roads, decent schools, some security ( depending on where you live) and low cash liquidity and high debt.

Pressure dey. Don't let anyone deceive you. If you are coming from dire straits japa - but if you have property, a good business - look before you leap.

Modified
She will still pay National Insurance at 10% in addition to personal income tax

Yeah. While the story might be true or made up, it remains a fact that a lot of Nigerians actually sell off everything and give up great jobs here to go abroad to start hustling all over.

I have met a lot of them tbh.

Some get lucky and break into the corporate world over there or change careers successfully.

However, many are never that lucky. Some get stuck in multiple minimum wage jobs for years till they make it or die in depression.
You see some people that are very comfortable here, with high paying job leave everything, sell all their properties just to go over there with no certain assurance that they will make the money back. If you talk now, they will say they are doing it for their children and 100th generations to have a better life.

I dunno, but you are wrong.

If not for the demotion, her cleaning job can fetch her better things in 5 years compared to the colleagues she left behind
Not true. Her mates who remain in the banking job will be far better than her in the next 10 years. Mark my words. I've seen so many and know so many.

Look before you leap.

Check your reasons. Check your heart (talk to your maker). Check your resources (skills, network and funds).

So that you don't come online later and lament like this lady.

So with Nigeria passport, you cannot start importing from different countries?

Earthquakes:
In two to 3 years she will get a better job that her banking mates in Nigeria will never meet up in 15yrs
Don’t also forget she’s giving birth and probably her kids will be citizens too.
I was working in a factory when I travelled newly but later got what I deserve
People travel for different reasons not just money, me I travelled to get international passport so I can start importing from different countries, some might laff me on money but I have different plans

Even cleaner for Buckingham Palace no dey earn 14 GBP per hour.
Oga, it's too early in the morning to start lying.
Who told you all jobs in the UK have 14 gbo per hour minimum salary?
Have you ever been to the UK?
If cleaner end 2800 per month, how much HCA go earn?
You are a big time liar with no atom of shame.

Fogman:
She is still better off. I am sure she is new in UK, it is always same story of regret initially. Let her try get another shift and see her thanking God for relocating
All jobs comes with a minimum of 14 pounds salary per hour and if she can average 50 hours per week she will be going home with over 2800 pounds per month, was her 5 months salary as a Banker upto that?

At what cost ??

She'll end up with no spouse, no joy, loneliness and above all stress of the job.

This is absolutely not true . Infact to me UK is just like advanced Lagos . Many people get married and start family over there . I have a lot of example I personally know. Don’t fall for these internet stories it’s for the grams.

A banker? So she could not read the documents, do her own due diligence , she just went o sell all her properties.

Very easy todo is she did not procure htem with her money.

She may have been a cleaner in the bank she worked in Ghana. Just because you work in a bank doesn't qualify you as a banker.

Many are just tellers, cleaners, drivers and food vendors in the bank. Japa syndrome is a sophisticated form of slavery and human trafficking where the victims initiate and execute the whole process.

Somebody somewhere is selling them lies, and they are too gullible and stupid to know better.

There us absolutely nothing wrong in dual citizenship, but not at the expense of one's roots.
