Phee has been the best player obviously, but outside of her most bigs have been underwhelming. Surprising you mentioned Boston and Angel. They have been average at best and the vast majority of commentaries from media and fans agree with this. The best players in the league have been overwhelming guards and this isn't even up for debate. Of the top 15 players, 10 of them are guards and none is a center. The remaining 5 who are forwards are those who can move the ball like guards.

And for Athletes Unlimited, no it isn't semipro. It is as professional as unrivalled. The 40 woman 2024 roster had 18 active WNBA players and 11 others who had WNBA experience. This year 2025 has 20 players with WNBA experience. At least a 3rd of those currently playing in Unrivaled have played in AU before now. So it's as professional as they come. They just do not have the kind of funding Unrivaled has.
I forgot about this our chat as u took small time to reply. If the best player in a league is a big u can't say it is set up for only guards. The proof is right there with ur best player. Angel Reese is like Osimhen on a basketball court, even when she is not scoring she bring so much to the table. Boston has been poor sha. She had got a double double when I made that post but she has really fallen off.

As for AU I'm just saying some players are pro's and some are not. After they pay their W players how much will they have left for the others?

She was fantastic for the tourney. Followed the tournament so I know. The funny part is she did all of that coming from the bench. She's menace on defence and can be a problem when her offence gets going.

Yeah, even from the season-long highlights I watched, I could tell she is a special talent. She would be a nice asset for D’Tigress too, as a possible backup to Amukamara and Kalu

Now, this is what I call an absolutely dominant offensive performance 💪🏾👏🤩

Watched the game earlier this morning. She's had a rough season and one could say her draft stick feels quite a bit, but she put on a show today that will leave many GMs thinking.

Really sad to see JuJu get injured, but Kiki took om the leadership role gracefully and being number 1 option helped her to dail in.

Breaking:

The D'Tigress Coach Rene Wakama has joined the Chicago Sky Staff as an Assistant Coach.

Big congratulations to her.

Really wanted her to get a college gig instead but this is also a great appointment.

Happy for her.

Germany is going to host the next FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in 2026. I look forward to the Dtigresses playing in that tournament. We should have a powerful squad in Berlin in next year. I trust Coach Wakama and the NBBF to assemble a strong squad.

Result of the 2025 women’s Afrobasket draw…

The tournament will run from July 26-August 3

Hmn. Senegal has easy opponents in Group C. Nigeria has Mozambique and Rwanda in Group D- two revenge seeking countries we defeated in 2023 to clinch the trophy. We must be prepared for the tourney. It seems Senegal wants to regain the throne.

Yea
I was hoping for an “easier” draw, but sometimes, it is better to win it the tough way. Unlike, two years ago, I expect the current iteration of D’Tigress to achieve a more convincing victory over the Rwandans

Yea, Ezinne Kalu is back in the squad. Mozambique will be tough to beat though. I think we should scout for fresh talent in the USA and Europe and invite them to camp. Iriafen and Onwumere should make up their minds about playing for D'tigress. We don't want divided loyalty. And I also believe we should check the Australian basketball leagues and their college system for players with Nigerian heritage. I am thinking more of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Germany next year. Cheers.

I think someone should start telling Onwumere and Iriafen that waiting for the USA to cap them in a serious competition is like waiting for godot. They should be told to look at what happened to the Ogwumike Sisters ( Never played for the USA at the Olympics ) and Liz Cambage ( deep things happened to her due to her color ). Apart from that, USA has too many good players fighting for 12 jerseys. Nigeria needs them than the USA. Hmn.

They will most likely play for Nigeria

They are not waiting for USA. Never were. They very openly identify with Nigeria for a reason. Timing is largely the reason they are yet to feature for Nigeria.

Not sure when, but they are definitely playing for Nigeria. For instance, they are unlikely to participate in the Afrobasket cause the WNBA will be on. Even though they can get short leave from their teams I wouldn't advice it.

Also Liz Cambage's issue has nothing to do with her colour biko. She is just too much trouble to deal with. It's the reason why she isn't playing in the WNBA too.

Here is the U-19 Tigress’s World Cup schedule:

July 12: Nigeria v China at 1pm

July 13: Canada v Nigeria at 10:45am

July 15: Nigeria v Portugal at 10:45am

The women’s U-19 World Cup runs from July 12-20…

Meanwhile, D’Tigress’s (tentative) Women’s Afrobasket schedule is as follows:

July 26: Nigeria v Rwanda

July 28: Mozambique v Nigeria

Just saw the mercury roster for the season, Musa Murjanatu's name is on it...
Wooooow...I am so impressed by this, she has really come along way ...

Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by carbonado(m): 5:12pm On May 16, 2025
Our darling Amy got waived from the Suns,it's all good though,as this year has been brutal, the way talented players were getting waved left, right and center, the "W" needs to expand real quick and also possibly have a developmental league just like the G- league for the nba.

Sad, can she be picked up by other WNBA teams or it's late...

Europe won't be bad sha as long as the team compete in Euroleague

Yes she can, even though it isn't likely. WNBA teams usually give hardship contracts during the season particularly when a player on the roster is unavailable. Also, teams with 11 player roster right now die to cap space will likely have enough money to add a 12th player in a month or so.

This is amazing!

I hope she gets enough game time...

On the downside, she will most likely not be available for the afrobasket, but it's all good
