Stop exaggerating, it is just three states out of 50 that gets half of their power supply from Canada. Shame the US all you want, it's still the best country to live in the world because of the opportunities available for a young person.

Thanks to the USA umbrella, Mexico and Canada spend nearly nothing on their military. In essence, the USA is subsidizing their protection. Canada mainly supplies electricity to places like the state of Maine or upper New York state because they are closer. Canada's whole economy GDP is less than that of five Sates in the USA. The only thing I admire about Canada is their Health System. Living in Florida, I won't trade places with anyone in Canada.

You all need to lecture that guy that generating electricity is quite different from transmission and distribution. You can generate a large grid of electricity but if there is no transmission, distribution for consumption....then the generation is as useless as anything. For instance, you have 20kva generator in your house and whenever you switch it on, you will go over and switch off all the appliances except one small energy bulb. I tell you, you are killing that generator, it wouldn't last long....infact, it might even shut down itself. Therefore, Canada generating electricity within the little population needs more transmission and distribution for the generation to be effective. Even Nigeria with the little we are generating, we are still giving out to our neighbors. Canada benefits as well as those 3 states in the US......it's vice versa.....

Texas is not even connected to the US national grid let alone Canada. Texas locally generates its own electricity in the state of Texas and I believe several other states do the same . The US electricity supply is diversified. Only little is coming from Canada.

Compared to Ontario, British Columbia is unwilling to toe Doug Ford’s approach because depending on the season/demands, the province exports/import electricity from California, Washington, and Oregon states. In general, British Columbia exports electricity when there is a surplus locally/higher demand from the US – (increased income), and imports in lieu of local generation when it is cheaper to do so. So, when it comes to cross-border electricity, it is all about business calculations.

While some states, such as New York, Michigan, and Minnesota, import electricity from Ontario, the OP mentions only 3 states. The U.S. has 50 states with a highly diversified power grid. The U.S. grid integrates multiple energy sources (nuclear, coal, natural gas, hydro, and renewables) before distributing power to consumers, meaning Canadian electricity accounts for only a small fraction of total supply. A surcharge on Canadian electricity might increase costs, but it would not cause entire states to go dark, not to talk of the entire country as you suggest.

2. Canada is not the biggest player in the region, the OP said Canada is more dependent on American exports than the other way round. The US economy is about $25 trillion while Canada's is at around $2 trillion, so the US economy is roughly 10 to 12 times larger. Most of Canada's exports, about 70-75%, goes to the US, meaning Canada relies a lot on American buyers, but the US, with its many trading partners, doesn't depend on Canada as much and has several other trading partners to turn to, that means Canada will suffer more in a trade war with the US, just as the OP has rightly stated. What Canada might do is to woo other partners, and be less dependent on the US, which will be more expensive logistically speaking. Trading with your partner across the border is smarter and cheaper than trading with someone across the ocean, you might lose competitive advantage when you include shipping costs and other logistics.

All said, like I've said before, and will reiterate, Trump's foreign policy will ultimately have a significant negative impact on the American economy.
