NIMC to Nigerians: Modify NIN details on official portal to avoid data compromise.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has urged Nigerians to modify their national identification number (NIN) details only through its official self-service portal.

NIMC gave the warning in a statement signed by Kayode Adegoke, its head of corporate communications, on Monday.

The commission said the caution note was to ensure data security and integrity.

“The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) wishes to state that in order to ensure the security and integrity of your National Identification Number (NIN) data, modifications can only be done on the official NIMC self-service portal: selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng,” the statement reads.

“Do not attempt to modify your NIN data on any unauthorized websites, as this may compromise your personal information and put you at risk of identity theft.

“By using the official NIMC self-service portal, you can be rest assured that your data is secure and protected. You’ll also enjoy the convenience of updating your information from anywhere, at any time.

“So, remember: for all your NIN modification needs, click on Selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.”

On November 22, 2024, NIMC said 115 million Nigerians have registered for the NIN.

The figure is 13.6 percent or 15 million higher compared to the 110 million announced in September last year.

On January 14, the commission approved licence for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to register inmates in over 252 custodial centres across the country for NIN.

This news is a big lie and false hope. The nimc portal is scrap. Once u pay and want to modify it after uploading the documents and u click submit. It would show u error,value something .both for change of name,dob,etc.its the same error message.
The portal is not working

Why will I want to change details which were correct to begin with? See the country encouraging Nigerians’ fraudulent ways. The country, last last, na scam.

I registered my NIN years ago when i was in school. I didn't get the details then because of my busy schedules.

For years now, av been trying to get it, but it's been one center recommendation to another. Some even claimed they could not find it on the portal. And the system would deny me access to register for a new one because of my thumb print match. Have been using my wife's registered bank account. I even went as far as asking my friends to open account for me using their details.

when you go to unauthorised website, they can get your login details and use it to access your data in the NIMC portal

Useless and stupid something called nin

Whenever I want to log in into nimc app, the otp entered my phone minutes the countdown finished, so the otp would expire.

Why can't one change his or her number on the site?

Nigerian Banks are funny.

To close an account, is as simple as Sending them an email; or writing a Letter in the banking hall and said account gets closed.

But to make corrections, such as your Account name, they would request for many things e.g NIN , BVN , Court affidavit , NewsPaper publication , Proof of address (anything you give them e.g NEPA bill, dem no go even verify am) , Means of identity ( e sure me say if you present Oluwole Voter Card, dem no go still know).

I tried changing my the passport photograph on my NIN but the option was not there
