I suggest she writes to the EU, US and Saudi Arabia because this is a serious issue.

It is clear that this woman does not weigh her actions carefully before taking them.

1. There was a case of Akpabio holding her hand and showing her round his house and scratching her palm with his fingers. He then proposed to her in the presence of her husband that they could be coming there for "quality time". She said she didn't tell her husband the details nor report the incidence to the ethics committee. Mistake number 1.

2. She said when she visited Akpabio in his office to complain about her motion being stood down, Akpabio said as the chief presiding officer of the senate, he'd take care of her if she took care of him. She didn't report the incidence to the ethics committee. Mistake number 2.

3. On a routine day, she was re-allocated to a seat and she started quarreling when she refused to take her seat after she was told she could not speak from where she was. She said she was being silenced and was speaking for the Nigerian women. She could have simply moved to her new seat and made her contributions from there. Mistake number 3.

4. She answered a call from Brekete where she said the new seat they sent her to would hide her from the camera and she won't catch the eye of the senate president. That was a silly thing to say. Mistake number 4.

5. She went on Arise News and made claims of sexual harassment. That was her biggest mistake. She could have first made a report to the ethics committee and leaked it to the press. By doing a media appearance, she allowed those she was fighting prepare an ambush.

6. She then formally filed a petition against Akpabio on sexual harassment. It turned out to be improperly filed according to the senate red book, Order 40, sub 4. That exposed her as being unaware of parliamentary processes. Her colleagues ripped her petition to pieces. Mistake number 6.

7. Mistake number 7 was taking Akpabio to court over an infamous facebook post by Akpabio's aide where the aide said she wore transparent clothing and walked seductively in the senate. I am no fan of Akpabio, but he is not liable for what his aide wrote. His lawyers would argue correctly that he be excluded from the case.

8. Mistake number 8 was obtaining a court order to stop her probe. That could have given her ample opportunity to give cause to her conduct which could have allowed her cite the sexual assault issues and give evidence. By citing the cases, she could have put the ethics committee in trouble because their hands would have been tied.

9. Because she allowed her colleagues see the battle she was waging before sge waged them, they could prepare their counter-attacks.

10. I think going to the inter parliamentary union undermines her case. The IPU has no supervisory powers over Nigeria's senate and can do nothing to discipline Akpabio. What she'd accomplish is rubbishing and embarrassing Akpabio and her colleagues. Many of these people are already persona non gratae which makes her action self-defeating.

What she can do now is to take time out, listen to those who genuinely care about her and find a different tactic to fight this battle. She should forget about getting justice from this senate. My recommendation would be to file a formal petition in court or code of conduct tribunal against Akpabio and fight it till the end. Akpabio can be docked.
Well said.

She might not be listening to advice, I even want to believe that her husband must have kick against some steps she has taken so far

The funny thing is, she said she's there illegally

If they have integrity and wanted to preserve the same, the Senate president should not as a matter of principle during the investigation and secondly should be seen to sanction consequences on his accuser. Basically being judge in your own case, where is that done. No ethics there, no ethics there.

If it were truly been investigated, an automatic suspension of the Senate president should have followed.
Do you have a compression problem?

Did you follow the stories objectively?

Did you read my last post?

I said there were two separate cases; the first has been treated by the Senate Committee and the Senate herself. Punishment has been served.

The second case is being investigated.

The Senate President can't be suspended over an allegation that is being investigated by the Committee on Ethics and Privileges; he is not even a member of that committee.

If you have a personal problem with the Senate President, find your way to deal with it but to ask him to be suspended now is a joke taken too far.

He will not be suspended until proven guilty.

Oga, the IPU can't discipline or reprimand anyone in the Nigerian National Assembly. That is not their role.

Natasha should approach the court with a case of Sexual Harassment against Apabio, of she hasn't. Simple.

Even the punishment for indiscipline you referenced , high-handed, why six months when I hear(haven't confirmed) even their rule ought to be around 14 days. And why deny representation from a senator for 6 months, incorrectly infererring Yeas and Nays?

Everything is not gragra na, Akpabio will be expected to explain himself in New York and they will definitely need the outcome of investigations into Natasha's allegations no matter the reason they say they suspended her. These people block their ears to reason and keep acting like crude apes. Nobody is saying he's guilty but sexual harassment is a very sensitive topic in the wider world that they don't joke with. If Akpabio really had an adviser who told him the truth and advised him on strategy, he would have opted for diplomacy instead of brute force but wetin concern me ? The king will have to dance nakéd in New York cool
You dont even understand your, Akpabio should opt for diplomacy how ?? give Natasha a blank cheque or step down for Natasha to take his position

The way some you think is very very funny sha, when someone wrongly accuse you do you negotiate with such a person ... do you know the extent of damage sexual harassment does true or not true

Natasha was sanctioned by the senate c'mitte, she disobeyed the house rule not Akpabio .. any other diplomacy from Akpabio is an acceptance of guilty.

We are waiting for UN to come n flog our senators, Natasha must be very stupid

Is Nigeria Senate the court of law? If the case hadn’t been lodged with the court of law why did she dash off to AriseTV?

Wisdom indeed is profitable to direct. When pride is leading, it always precedes a massive fall.

Akpabio may have erred, all we ask is proof. Don’t drag all women into your fight. Not all of us are this unwise. You are fighting for your pride not women.

This is all shades of what a lack of wisdom looks like.

As long as you didn’t cry foul when the supposed harassment occurred but waited till you had issues in the senate to cry foul, you can’t convince me this is about sexual assault. No! You can’t.

Of course, IPU has no power to take decisions for the Nigerian Senate, our sovereignty is not in question. There is a real effect of this action, which will be pronounced in future and even more so when her accusations are proved true within the Nigerian judiciary or frustrated from doing so.

I will need to refer to that bye-law when chanced in my spare time for better resolution of details. Having said that, this bye law which subjects the duration of suspension of a law maker according to what the Senate deems fit may not have been equitably applied, bad optics.

In fact, to put this another way, the process reeks of "even when ones accusatory claims are correct and valid, the rules can be weaponize against that member even when the erring is as a result of the claim in the first place".

I would argue they should have been both suspended, before this degeneration or at least considered that component during the application of her suspension. The optics is just bad, more for the Senate and its presiding officer, even with out the knowledge of the truth to her claims.

Its seems a lot of us here on this platform are on Akpabio’s payroll because I can’t understand how you guys will be defending the indefensible. The right thing that should have been done was for Akpabio to have step aside while investigation was going on. In this case, Akpabio became the judge in own case. Six months suspension for refusing to change her seat is abominable. They are taking advantage of the fact that more than 90% of our senators are men and we are a patriarchal society that suppresses women voice. I think Natasha erred in not changing her seat but the greater blame is on Akpabio who we know like most politicians is a philanderer.

Did the residents of her state report her for failure to have any meaningful impact on their lives? Did they report her to the UN for being just as useless as the rest of the politicians?

Only in Nigeria do politicians report injustice to outsiders when it impacts them but if a regular citizen should report them to those same outsiders, they would lock him or her up or worse.......My o my, how the tables have turned grin grin grin

This despicable behavior should be met with full clapback not only from the Senate but the presidency as well. the UN should not dictate to Nigeria on its Congressional bylaws and ethics!

This woman is such a big liar. First of all, you were not suspended for raising sexual allegations but for violating the rules of the Senate. Your colleagues are asking you to apologize for breaking the Senate's rules, not for making allegations against the Senate President. This further proves that you lied against Senator Akpabio.

Please I wish to understand something, which one came first, was it the pending investigation or the punishment, or did the pending investigation start when the punishment was applied.

Ok, Let me concede the Senate president can't be suspended based on allegations being investigated by the ethics committee, isn't it still in order for him to step aside and delegate pending the conclusion of the investigation? I mean why would even an ex-Senate president also advise a step-aside and delegation as is the ethical thing to do as regards this accusations of this kind?

Concerning the televised portion of the session, are you aware the Senate president even chose to go with the "Yeas" instead of the overwhelming "Nays" that was echoed in the house (I mean I want to believe that maybe the louder Nays that I was hearing was probably due to their nearness to the mic of the specific camera the view was from, but so far I haven't seen another camera view to convince me that was the case)
