I've been reading a lot of feedback from Europeans and Americans, but now I would like to hear from someone living in Nigeria.

Are air coolers worth it?

Running ACs at night with an inverter costs an arm and a leg. The only alternative I can think of now is air coolers.

Have you used air coolers in the past, do you currently use one today?

Is it really better than a standing fan?

Aircoolers actually work ... i've not bought those big ones shown in your post but a small portable one i bought, proved that they are not bad.

However, i'll not buy aircooler, rather, i'll buy 1 hp portable ac ... infact i saw one inverter type sef which saves 70% energy (LG of course)...

That's a better option ... and buying as tokunbo is the best way to save money cos the brand new price can kill ...

The toks are about 100 to 200k depending on how much greed dey the sellers eyes

I already have inverter ACs. I just need something that consumes less than 500w I can use overnight. I'm completely off-grid.
