It is within their powers to do so. Rivers State might probably need a new Chief Judge because under the watch of this present one, Rivers State judiciary has become a joke, especially the High Court.

This move by the lawmakers is a ploy to confirm which side the Chief Judge is at.
Remember that some lawmakers loyal to Fubara suspended this same Chief Judge in 2023.
Recent happenstances suggest that Justice Amadi is on Fubara's side but the lawmakers want to exploit the old scar of the suspension which was sanctioned by Fubara to see if they can make Amadi switch his allegiance. Otherwise, any impeachment move would be a waste of time.
