By Izunna Okafor, Awka The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has intensified advocacy for the security of schools and the restoration of academic activities disrupted by the illegal sit-at-home order in the state. Speaking during a visit to schools on March 12, 2025, as part of the Police Safe School Initiative, CP Orutugu emphasized the need to protect students, teachers, and school staff from the negative effects of insecurity. He highlighted how the sit-at-home directive had adversely affected learning, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies had reinforced their presence across the state—especially on Mondays—to ensure normalcy. The Police Safe School Initiative, according to CP Orutugu, is a proactive security framework aimed at preventing crimes in schools, strengthening partnerships with school administrators and communities, and providing support to enhance security measures in learning institutions. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the CP highlighted the benefits of the initiative to include enhanced security of students, teachers, and staff; crime prevention; and confidence boosting, safe learning environment, among others. Accompanied by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Ify Obinabo, CP Orutugu urged Ndi Anambra to confidently resume their daily activities without fear of harassment. He further commended residents for showing resilience and gradually reclaiming Mondays for economic and social activities, defying the disruptions imposed by the sit-at-home order. The Anambra Police Command reassured the public of its strong commitment to maintaining law and order while urging communities to cooperate with security agencies to sustain peace and stability across the state.

Telling people to confidently resume activities without adequate security is not the solution. FG needs to address the root cause, namely, the many unjust attacks on unarmed IPOB and SE by the Buhari Govt via the insecurity agents and Fulani herdsmen. FG and Anambra State Government should apologize for those unjust killings in Nkpor, Emene, etc. That's the solution. Quote me anywhere. |

Some northern states shut down schools for Ramadan, that's 30 days of no academic activities in a year. In the southeast, schools are under locks every Monday, that's 52 days of no academic activities in a year. |
