The average American will not work a low wage to produce clothes, or else the Unions will kick against it. It's exploitation in Asia, Africa, and cheaper places but that's business for you. If Nigeria has 24/7 light today, it will be the next destination for this exploitation. We don't have light but see what the Indians, Chinese and Lebanese are doing with factories. The Panama Canal Trump is eyeing is already captured by China. America will lose because they have been comfortable with this lie and they also don't want migrants who can work cheap labour in USA. Wages and salaries constitute about 70% of the cost of production. Increased wages mean a more expensive good. An American would rather spend $100 to buy 20 tees from China than use the same $100 to buy 5 tees produced in the US. Countries will continue to buy from China because they can afford it.


To sing tariff will mean that if Americans are buying a product made in China or Europe for $5, the goods will become expensive and Americans have to spend say $15 for the same goods. This will force American industries to start producing the goods. But since Americans won't accept low wages, the goods will still be costly but cheaper say $11. The Americans will complain about the rising cost of things and demand for an increased wage. If this is implemented, companies will complain again about increased cost of production and increase price again. And the cycle continues. The countries that are already complaining about the high cost of American goods will be forced further away.

If Nigeria is producing cars, the cars will be cheap and affordable even to the low income earners. All we do is assembling which means the high wages paid to high wage Americans and Europeans for produced parts have been factored into the cost.
