Benin ore express road is the only high way directly connecting the South South to South West despite the growth in population and economic activities.

For a futuristic leader, there is need to open up new roads for the regions for ease of economic activities and improve security. The answer to that is lagos - Calabar coastal highway.

Most of the new refineries are located between South South and Southwest and to cater for resultant traffic of heavy tankers, there is need to open up new highway.

No northerner will call it a waste if government decides to construct highway into every town. It is in the Southern Nigeria that they will complain and call response a corruption.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road is not a bad project, but there are too many unanswered questions about it...

1. Why the absence of competitive bidding for such a massive project?

2. Where are the necessary assessment reports that would have clearly defined the route and environmental impact of the project?

3. Why award the project to Hitech? A company with dubious affiliation to Abacha and a close confidante to bat, with ST even having majority shares in one of the sub-companies under Hitech.

4. Last year, the Minister of Works condemned Julius Berger for wanting to do a project at about N2.5b per kilometre, but has no qualms awarding the coastal highway at N4b per kilometre. Why the double standards?

5. The FG has quietly released over N1trn for the first phase of about 47.7 kilometres. That is over N22bn per kilometre. How much of its own funds has Hitech expended on the project?

6. Akure-Ado Road is less than 60km and awarded to 2 contractors. Lokoja-Abuja, less than 100km, awarded to 2 contractors. Other roads less than 50km are being awarded to two different companies to start from different ends. So why was a 700km Road awarded to one company?

Is not every project they bid for cos president and governors can choose the contractors they like to use, expecially a very important and complex projects. Stop the hate and bitterness cos we are in the season of lent.

Only SE has this proper interconnectivity of state capitals to dual federal A trunk highways. I was in SW, they lack such. From Benin to Akure, Akure to Ado Ekiti all are minor corner corner roads

Are you saying Those going to Benin from Abeokuta should first go though Ore, back to ondo then to Akure, and back to Ore again because State Capital must pass through dual Carriage Road.

This project is in phases. Hi tech is only handling lagos part while from calabar another company is in charge.
