This argument has 2 sides.

On one side, Tbf, Severus Snape's race wasn't explicitly stated in the source material, and People just came to the conclusion that he was probably white and the movies re echoed this fact.

I think a black broad played Hermione in the stage plays, and J.K Rowling seemed to be cool with it.

On the other hand, The times are so charged up to boiling point because of political, racial and religious tension. People are easily upset, and to make a casting like this, in this time? looks like straight up pandering, even though that might not have been the intent, i mean, you don't dose yourself in gasoline, if you don't want no smoke....
😩

And to the actor, i know it might seemed like a great chance to play an iconic character, but he is about to be called every slur in the book, they might even invent new ones, so much so, that i personally think playing the character, isn't worth the hassle and wanton trouble it will bring.

Will be there to see him rock long greasy, oily black hair since she didn't have no race in mind when she was writing that.

I was surprised to enter nkiri yesterday and stumbled across Captain America brave new world, the movie must be really underperforming at theatre to be out so fast on a pirate site.

Anyways I will give the movie a 5 out of 10 ,it should have been made into series a continuation from falcon and the winter soldier ,the movie is forgettable.

The Night House---2021; mystery/horror film about a young woman mourning the recent demise of her seemingly perfect husband but as time passes and she begins to peruse through his personal belongings, she begins to slowly realize Mr.Wonderful may have been hiding some dastardly secrets about himself.

I've watched many movies from different genres and nationality but black American movies are the best to me.

Very educative, scintillating, thrilling, exciting all blended together.

I can't get enough.

As a diehard Harry Potter fan - all you're saying is full of dog shit. If you dont know anything about a particular franchise just keep quiet. If they are really following the books - the casting is a really terrible idea giving that Harry's father bullied and tormented Snape plus a host of other things i dont have the time to share

While I 100% do not agree with the casting, oyaskii isn't wrong. The book doesn't indicate his race, neither did your post

Severus is described as having 'shoulder length black hair and a beak nose' which are Caucasians features. Black people have wooly, tightly packed curls, not straight hair, and I am yet to see a negroid individual with a beak shaped nose. She didn't need to infer his race when she has already described what race he belongs to.

Well - Original nick fury was white.

It's a reboot so you don't want to tell the exact same story. That's the mistake Disney made with their live action movies that are basically copy pasted versions of the original story.

Die hard indeed 🤦🏿‍♂️....are you trying to be an obtuse bellend on purpose? Bring out a text from the book since you are a diehard fan, that explicitly say he his white...No? You rushed to bring an A.I generative hogwash that describes vague features that neither improve your point nor educate us any further in general on the subject matter, than what we already know...

And i even explicitly stated that the casting wasn't worth the trouble, it will bring, or it's obviously bringing now going by this your rabid reaction....man unclench your butt cheeks....i didn't do the casting and this your rant is totally misdirected...🤦🏿‍♂️.

They're black people with natural blonde hair and blue eyes in Polynesia recently discovered as early as 3 years ago? I bet you'd also say that was unusual, some 10 years, ago, just because you haven't seen it...The world isn't limited to what you know or what you've seen....No?.

Btw, This is a fantasy medium that is totally imaginary from start to finish, so I don't get the faux outrage because this isn't the first time it is happening, Roland Deschain is clearly white in the "Dark Tower" books and Idris Elba played the role in the movie, and the world went by. For fictional adaptations, there is no rule that says, they must be faithful to the source material.

If they had cast Paapa Essiedu as Ronald Reagan, then all this faux outrage will be totally worth it. Like i said, looks like pandering cuz of the times we are now but it is not the first time... Y'all will be fine ✌🏿

I don't even understand the uproar with so many people about this casting..... especially when it's from HBO who has the track record of handling this sort of diversity issue with finesse.

I can very well recall HBO doing this same thing 3 years ago and all hell let loose on the internet.......but the final product having come out this past few years and everyone has already forgotten about the black ensemble cast of the Velaryons in House of The Dragon. This would probably be no different.

Besides, it's a fictional character. Make all this fake rage dié down. I'm not enthusiastic about the casting myself but I'll wait for the final product and judge. They've done it before and it didn't impact the enjoyment of the story rather brought more audience and discussions about the characters.

Also, not all adaptation should be like for like...... looking for copy and paste, you can just as well read the Original. That's the beauty that has brought us varieties we didn't know we wanted like Michael Keaton's Batman, Christian Bale's and Robert Pattinson's. Same character, different iterations and style.

What makes these arguments even ironic to me is the fact that the very authors & creators of these books are very much involved in the projects and okayed the decisions, how much more we the viewers? People cried about Neil Gaiman's The Sandman's De@th being cast as a black yet everyone quickly forgot about this squabble once the TV show premiered.

So, I say, let's give the showrunners the benefit of the doubt and see the finished product.
Except the crux of the matter is just down to the fact of Purism.

My two cents. ✌🏽

I remember when people dey halla that year pretending to have read The Sandman and know the lore when they were screaming about the reason why Lucifer was changed to a female with the Gwendoline Christie casting. Loud mouths were oblivious of the fact that Lucifer was more of an hermaphrodite (neither male nor female) and rather looked effeminate in some comic drawings, in fact in some comic strips Lucy looked almost identical to Christie. grin grin

Or forgot the fact that De@th, Lucifer and Morpheus takes the shape of what you imagined them to be as their appearance to mortals.

Everybody go dey alright las las.
