Next time we blame Tinubu, we should not forget law makers, d people representing d masses n hw they continuously align with d president decisions which r mostly unfavourable to d common man. If d people whom we elect to fight n defend our interest r d ones adding salt to d masses injury, how then can d masses blame d president for d harsh treatment they r going thru? |

Uche559:Have you read Section 58 (2) of the proposed Bill? Or you are just typing trash about what you have no idea about simply because others are typing too? Your empty head is not only for carrying gala and baseless rumours. Use it to think. Oh, I nearly forgot. It's empty. |

Nigeria needs tax reform. It's long overdue. Some of the amended laws are of 1939. People have played politics with this nation for too long. Most of PBAT reforms should have been done so many years ago to lay the foundation for the greatness of this nation. Because they are coming very late and in difficult times that's why the pains are much. It's either we reform or we sink. |

These lawmakers are running a Ponzi scheme. If there were any law abiding people in the house, this is enough for them to nab the president! Democracy is long gone with these present set of animals. They are not acting like human beings, how can you confirm a president in the dead of the night and pass a bill at the same time? Are we running an occultic government full of wizards? Let them continue these madness, one day it will catch up with them, you won’t run from it. |

President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills, submitted to Nigeria’s National Assembly in October 2024, aim to overhaul the country’s tax system through four key pieces of legislation: the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill. Here’s a summary: 1. Nigeria Tax Bill 2024: Consolidates taxes, exempts low earners (below ₦800,000/year) and small businesses (turnover ≤ ₦50 million), reduces corporate tax from 30% to 25%, and raises VAT from 7.5% to 15% by 2030. It shifts VAT sharing to favor states based on consumption (60%), introduces a 5% telecom tax, and prioritizes federal tax authority over conflicting laws. 2. Nigeria Tax Administration Bill: Standardizes tax processes across government levels, mandates digital filing, and increases penalties for non-compliance. 3. Nigeria Revenue Service Bill: Replaces the FIRS with the Nigeria Revenue Service to centralize tax collection, including royalties and excise duties. 4. Joint Revenue Board Bill: Creates a board to coordinate federal and state tax efforts. Goals: Simplify taxation, boost revenue (targeting 18% tax-to-GDP by 2026), promote equity, and stimulate growth. Status: Passed the House by March 13, 2025, with Senate approval pending after debates. Controversy: Northern states oppose the VAT formula for favoring richer regions, though the reforms exempt essentials and aim to fund public services. Success depends on effective implementation and addressing regional disparities. |

Nice development. We are too reliant on crude oil and we can see in front of us how fluctuating the prices can be. With this tax reform, we can use it to generate more money to fund our budget without having to borrow at unfair rates. It has good contents like tax harmonisation and fairness. We can also use it to control inflation without having to rely on CBN to increase interest rates. It may not be perfect but it’s a good job. 👏🏿 for NASS!!!! Now, move on to State Police and it will become the best NASS unit in Nigeria’s history. |
